Having a player like Kovalchuk is worth any price to a team as terrible as the Habs were at that point.

The trade didn't happen, life goes on. The Habs have the players who weren't traded. They're well placed for the future, along with several other teams that have good young talent. They won't always be looking up to les feuilles mortes and even to the Devils and Flyers.
