the Flames want Jokinen in the lineup tonight for all the good it did them. And he's a little bitter about the whole trade... clip on TSN has him saying "it's a slap in the face". Dude! Are you trying to pi$$ off your new team already?

The rumor here in Calgary is that Sutter is collecting a bunch of pieces that he doesn't want (Higgins, Kotalik, possibly even Stajan, etc) and is going to package them all off for something bigger.
Calgary was on the list of teams Kotalik didn't want to be traded to, so why did he agree to this move unless he knew he was going to be dealt to a team that he was ok with? Speculation.

Interesting rumor Marv. However I thought a piece like Phaneuf could land that "something bigger" people may be talking about. What I heard this morning is that the Flames have too many wingers (13-14?) & this may lead to more deals.

Way too many wingers, all playing similar styles. Phaneuf was the big chip, for sure, but I think a team like TB (Lecavalier?), would be happy with getting some pieces to compliment their team. They've already got their stud future superstar in Stamkos.

Did it sound like he was upset/insulted by the trade? Because I read the article, didn't see the clip, but I got the distinct impression that the "slap in the face" was the result of a poor translation of his thoughts on his part. Mainly because the entire quote was: I'd take that to mean "I sucked in Calgary, and this is my wake up call/slap in the face". It'd be far more interesting though to see what Torts thinks of it if he meant it as an insult though. Might not though.

Watched Olli's response. He's not insulting the Rangers at all. I think he's speaking from a wake up call POV. He's looking forward to playing in the East, on an original 6 team, with Gaborik.

With two huge contracts (Jokinen & Phaneuf) out of the way, there's no doubt in my mind that Sutter has something else in mind. He's as aggressive as Burke, when it comes to shaking up his team.

I do remember him saying that he was looking forward to playing with Gaborik... no mention of Avery though, lol! I think his 'tache distracted me. He looks very angry with it. Time to shave it off ;D

bizarre moves by Sutter. Unless something else is in the works, I really don't get these deals. Kotalik is not a Sutter type player. Not only that, if you hold onto Jokinen until the end of the season, you walk away. Now he's stuck with Kotalik for two years unless another sucker steps forward.
I'm a Habs fan first, but I am a Flames season ticket holder and I am not happy with either of these moves.

Any rumblings about Coach Sutter and maybe the way he's conducting business? Cheers.

Kotalik had success in Buffalo with Ruff. Ruff is a no nonsense kinda guy. Maybe they think he can find his game again.

Sutter is a very aggressive GM, and there's no way that the team that takes to the ice tomorrow is going to be the same that finishes the year - let alone the one at the Trade Deadline. He has changed the face of his team from an 'in your face' aggressive team to one that a few more finesse players. No way he's done.

If he expects a change of scenery will change Higgins, the Jok's on him. How good can Chris be considering he was drafted by Gainey. Good God, I'm sounding bitter. I dunno ... I think Higgins used properly, would be good in Calgary. They have a no BS GM, a no BS coach, and a no BS captain. The plan I heard was to used Hagman with Iginla. If Higgins can become more of a playmaker and less of a puck-hog, I think he could work with Iginla. Higgins is a good skater. He is lazy defensively and missing a Ryder scoring touch. He definately isn't a playmaker, is a puck hog and while I agree that he would do better on a line with Iginla and Hagman, so would anyone who isn't currently playing with a Sedin or Crosby. I could do well on a line with Iginla. So would Latendresse or Pouliot or Ryder. When I'm coaching, I tell certain players to backcheck; they don't. I repeat it they don't. I can take a leopard and yell, cajole, or beg it to change it's spots, but it rarely happens.
