Updated: 1/7/2004 The Flames, finding themselves thin at center with injuries to Craig Conroy, Steve Reinprecht and Blair Betts, and Jason Morgan getting claimed on waivers, are in the market to get some help down the middle. Among their possible targets are Montreal's Yanic Perreault, and Ottawa's Radek Bonk. According to the Ottawa Sun, Calgary could be offering defenseman Denis Gauthier. Updated: 1/7/2004 General manager Bob Gainey has started house cleaning in Montreal. After buying out RW Donald Audette, he has placed forward Chad Kilger on waivers and according to Le Journal de Montreal, is shopping center Yanic Perreault, who has seen his ice time cut lately. The newspaper believes Gainey has his eye on center Jason Arnott of the Dallas Stars.

Jason Arnott would be perfect in Montreal - just what the doctor ordered.
I would be willing to overpay to get a guy like that as he would totally change the look of this team. I would trade a 1st round pick plus a prospect for Arnott. If we keep playing like this our pick will be in the 15-20 range which is no huge loss.

Considering that this draft is not overly deep, and we're getting huge production from Ryder and Ribeiro, it wouldn't hurt to get Arnott. But what I don't understand is the role he would get. 3rd-liner, or 4th? Could Juneau be very well on his way out, too?

The Ottawa Sun has had Bonk traded to every team in the league at some point over the last decade yet he's still there. I would tend to take this rumour as yet more wishful thinking from Mr Garrioch. That would make the Perreault rumour wishful thinking as well perhaps.
Arnott would be terrific. He's been a favourite of mine since his Edmonton days. He's not exactly available for future considerations though. A first rounder may not be enough. Dallas may want someone ready to play now. My two cents...
Cheers,

If this rumour originates from Bruce Garrioch, forget it. The man epitomizes phallicies (detumescent ones). (This is where you come in, Mr. B.)

For discussion sake Arnott is a guy I'd also love to have and he meets all of Bo's criteria.Dallas has taken a step back and I'dm pretty sure they want to dump some salary and they won't get any takers for Turgeon. My guess it would cost us a bundle possibly including an offenssive D man ala Hainsey.Depending on what else is involved it would be curious especially if the Habs could unload Perrault and get Gauthier as also suggested, Go Bo I say the time is right to take a step while the going is good. I think he did play on wing in Dallas occasionally but I'm not sure. or Ribeiro could be going the other way... R.
