Thanks, darn working getting in the way of my trade tracking! not much to track though. I remember a couple of years back we were neck-and-neck for who'd post a trade first [Team1200 here seemed to have an upper hand]. this year . . . meh . . . don't expect much

Washington and Chicago still need goalies.
Huet gets lit up last night and the Hawks are going to roll with him? Huh!
Turco, Vokuun, Roloson . . . and of course Price/Halak available and nada?
I guess there is still 5 minutes.

Be interesting to see what they got for him. I thought Lee would do better there. At the time of the deal with the Blues I thought the Leafs might have won it. Steen has become a pretty good player in St Louis. Carlo is still Glass Joe.

Souray didn't get moved....likely out for season now that he's developed an infection after hand surgery. In hospital. The infection is serious.
They'd better take reallly good care of that. Scary stuff.

Oilers pick up Ryan Whitney for Lubomir Visnovsky. Nice contract to get rid of for the Oil, but he was a decent Dman. Good trade for both sides.

Raffi Torres to Buffalo for Nathan Paetsch and a 2nd. That's a lot for Torres. I remember seeing this guy a lot when he played for Brampton in the OHL. The guy was a dynamite power forward that played with an edge & put up really good numebrs. He hasn't come close to fulfilling the promise of being picked 5 overall.

Just for CO, Belanger for a second (and a late, late WSH second) seems a lot better deal than pending-UFA Moore for a second. according to www.capgeek.com Belanger is also UFA so the price is about the same.

Raffi's one of those in between players. If he were a true third liner with a strong defensive game he would likely be considered an elite checker. But, he contributes just enough offense to make you hope he can do more. It's certainly not a unique trait. We've seen it first hand in Montreal a few times.

I want to point out one fact in the above discussions about what is being gained when 2nd rounders are offered up (can't believe I'm defending Gauthier). Pierre gave up a 2nd round in 2011 for a rental. All these other 2nd rounders are in 2010, which is probably closer to a first rounder in 2011 in value. At least that's what I've read in a lot of places about the depth of the two drafts.
Just saying, ya know.
Still, I'd have kept our 2nd rounder.

I'd have kept our 2nd rounder. Me too. Predicting what a pool of hundreds of 17 yr olds are gonna look like 2, 3, 4 yrs down the road is an almost futile exercise; a 2nd in 2010 is pretty-much as much a shot-in-the-dark as one in 2011.

I'm watching the Hawks/Wings game. Chicago took a 2-0 first period lead and the Wings came back with 5 goals in the 2nd. Now Chicago has narrowed it to 5-3. Maguire and Milbury between periods were talking about Chicago not addressing what is a perceived weakness in goal, at the trade deadline. IMO, the same thing could be said for the Wings. Two solid teams, one on the way up the other on the way down, both with rather glaring holes between the net and both were obviously well coached by Bobby Clarke, or just didn't offer enough to teams with good goalies (the Habs). I think this is a real opportunity for Montreal coming up at the draft. Especially if both Price and Halak play solidly through the rest of the season and lead the Habs into the playoffs. There are enough teams with goaltending issues (add Philly, St. Louis, Dallas etc to that list) that we should be able to auction off one of ours. The biggest question for us is which one, or which one addresses our other needs. If we can just get Price's attitude into place, I think he's the one we keep. But, regardless, if both our guys finish off well, we'll be able to maximize the return at the draft.
