Bruins sitting in the cat-bird seat.
Thanks, Brian "I'd make that trade today" Burke.

He will get fifty in Boston. No worries we'll send the killer Dane against him

The first person I thought of when I read the title to the thread was, Peter Chiarelli. His and Paul Holmgren's names seem to get mentioned on our boards a lot and for the right reasons. He's a GM who's rich in assets. Here's the amount of picks and where he's drafting on Friday. Boston has 8 picks: by round: 1,1,2,2,4,5,6,7 by position: 2,15,32,45,97,135,165,195 NHL.comIt wouldn't surprise me at all if Chiarelli lands Horton. Not at all. Good on him if he does. Apparently he's set for next year too. Cheers.

I'm not really sold on Horton....He reminds me of Lats. Tim Horton? The deal is dead.......... I hate the Bruins, but they do have a stacked team with more good parts on the way. I'd like to see the Hab's draft Kabanov to learn from Sergei K in the press box.

The Bruins are in a very nice position. I would love to be GM of that team right now.

According to TSN, this is a done deal ...
Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell to the Bruins
Dennis Wideman and the Bruins 2010 1st rounder (15th overall) to the Panthers

Are you kidding? They just added Horton plus either Hall or Seguin for a 1st and Dennis Wideman, who struggled mightily last year in Boston. Horton is a player I wanted. A bit of an underachiever relative to where he was drafted but he's only 25 and should fit in well in Boston where he won't be counted on to carry the offense. Savard, Krejci, Bergeron, Horton, Hall/Seguin, Lucic, Wheeler..... that's a nice balance of playmakers and scorers. I'm loving this deal if I'm a Bruins fan.

Pleks is twice the player Horton is and there's no way we could have gotten that for him.

Horton and Pleks are two different players with, more importantly, two different contracts. Horton is locked up for the next 3 years at a very cap-friendly $4 million per season. He's only 25 and just had his best season on a ppg basis (57 points in 65 games, which translates into 72 points over the course of the season). He's a real power forward who may never live up to his #3 draft status, but still a nice piece to the puzzle.
I love the balance Boston is building on offense - skill with Savard, Krejci, and Bergeron, scoring/size with Horton, Lucic, Wheeler....and they add Hall or Seguin on Friday.
I'm jealous.

Add to this a pretty good young goalie (and cheap) in Tuuka Rask, Big Chara on the blue line....... I'm jealous too

Who's to say either will be better than Marc Savard is as a play maker right now? Boston struggled to score goals last year with the loss of Kessel. Lucic and Wheeler are NOT offensive dynamos. They do make room for others, but Horton has more offensive skill than either imo. Horton will give them some more goals. Moving Wideman, while he did struggle, means they lose one of, if not, their best puck movers. Chara isn't great a rushing the puck. They don't really have someone in the system to be that QB/puck mover.
