Yeah i agree that's not a deal that a team like Atlanta should be making.
From what i hear Morin is a pretty good prospect...better than Aliu.

Huh. I'm surprised Chicago would make this kind of deal. To my understanding, Eager, Byfuglien and Sopel were pretty useful players.

Atlanta surely looks <tougher> to play against.

Eager is an RFA they can't afford re-sign. Buff makes a fair chunk of change and they need to clear space. Looking at that deal, the 27th pick we have should have almost been enough to do a deal for Buff alone were the Habs interested.
Chicago gets rid of a number of cap concerns in this. The get another late first round pick (that Atlanta presumably got from the Devils?) They get a second in a pretty good draft year. I know nothing of Morin. Reasoner is an effective checking line player. He replaces Madden and will do it for A LOT less.

Looking at that deal, the 27th pick we have should have almost been enough to do a deal for Buff alone were the Habs interested. Morin's a very promising prospect, ranked #3 for Atlanta on HF. I think the 27th, a 3rd and a top prospect could've got it done if the Habs wanted to get Byfuglien. I'm of the opinion that Sopel probably has no or negative value since Chicago needed to take cap space, and Eager, though more valuable during the season than Byfuglien, doesn't have much value-added. Eager and Byfuglien are good players, but they don't add enough to give up a 1st, 2nd, and a good prospect for. Edit: Looks like Byfuglien became an offensive-zone specialist in the playoffs. Good coaching from Quenville, but Atlanta won't have that luxury with their lack of depth to fill out non-offensive minutes: www.behindthenethockey.com/2010/6/23/1533149/dustin-byfuglien-overrated-or

Moral is, don't do well in the playoffs! Halak did and he was rewarded with walking papers. Byflugen too. The Hab's did well after a so so season and were rewarded with the 27th pick. It's like getting the 27th prettiest bridesmaid at a wedding.
