If I am Calgary, I am asking for two of the following players: Eller, Max Pax, Leblance and Tinordi. They would fetch atleast that in the market if they put Iginla available.

If I thought Iginla was the guy to put us over the top, I'd do it. But I'm not sure that's the case. It's not just the prospects that would need to go the other way, we'd also need to send more or less matching payroll back as well. And Calgary has no interest in expensive, long-term deals - they want expiring contracts that will give them payroll capacity to spend next summer.
Roman Hamrlik is our most valuable expiring contract at $5.75m. So we would need to send him and perhaps a guy like Travis Moen to even out the money. So we would be making a blue line, already depleted with the loss of Markov, even more depleted with the loss of another top 4 guy.
Does getting Iginla up front make up for the loss on the back end? I think not.
I still think the play is Brian Campbell. An immediate replacement for Markov both in the short and long term. Of course we'd need to give up Hamrlik in that deal as well but at least it would be a clear upgrade over where we are.

Of course we'd need to give up Hamrlik in that deal as well but at least it would be a clear upgrade over where we are. Then there's the chance Chicago might want to hold onto this guy too. I think Campbell has done a fabulous job helping bring that young blue line corps into it's own. I saw the list Skilly put on the board the other day and I started thinking as to who they could bring in to replace Markov. Couldn't tell you one way or the other to be honest. However, if a player like Iginla does become available I don't know how you couldn't show some interest. I still believe this guy makes everyone around him that much better. A fresh start on a good team might be just what he needs. Besides, Gauthier isn't the guy who'd sell the farm to bring an impact player in. Just not his way. But, it's nice to have options, which many teams out there simply don't have. Cheers.

We don't need D-men, we're the #1 team in defensive play, yet we're near the bottom when it comes to offence. I would gladly give up a couple of prospects for Iginla.

Reap, I agree with TD: If I am Calgary, I am asking for two of the following players: Eller, Max Pax, Leblance and Tinordi. They would fetch atleast that in the market if they put Iginla available. the Flames aren't going to let Iggy go for little-to-nothing . . . and if they came out and said [publicly or not] that he was available there would be a veritable bidding war amongst at least a couple of teams. sure, I'd start by saying "let's talk" [well, that's the way I do it pool-wise, anyway . . . and I know it isn't the same] but the Flames are going to look at our top prospects for their name guy. so if it came down to it, are you willing to let two of these guys go for a possibility of a Cup? more pressing, who would you get to take salary from us so that we can fit him in [is Markov off the books enough?]. if you could guarantee me a Cup I'd be all over it . . .

I was agreeing with TD as well....I was leaning towards Weber and perhaps Xpac.

Like any rumour involving Montreal, I'm not getting my hopes up. I'd love Iggy in Montreal but just seems too good to be remotely true.

Keep in mind too, he's got a NTC. Only the teams he's interested in have a chance to line up with offers. Who's on that list, and how many of them are interested, are two very important questions.

With Feaster the new GM, and his mandate from the President to evaluate the whole roster, is it more a possibility that Iggy gets moved?

I recall Feaster being interviewed a couple of weeks ago. He downplayed the rumour he might be waiting in the wings. He also downplayed the Iggy rumours. Both of those are things you'd expect him to say.
The Flames have some difficult questions to ask that are even harder to answer. Many of their most important players are north of 30. They don't have replacements waiting in the wings. If I'm in that front office it has to be about selling off assets and rebuilding. The cupboard is bare and needs to be restocked. Iggy can still get them a significant return; likely more than anyone else on the roster. That return is only going to diminish over the next couple of years.
They don't have an opening to bring in a guy like Richards as a UFA, and I'm not sure playing in Western Canada would interest him - even if Feaster was with him in Tampa.
Time to sell.

Flames are in dire need to rebuild they've postpone this one year too much by trying to wing a team together by picking up pieces on the fly.
Iggy is their best ticket to jump start that. They have to pull the same kind of move that got them Iggy in the first place.
I think he'll be moved this year. He is interested in Montreal and Goat is interested as well. Like tankdriver said though, if Goat wants him, he'll have to give one or 2 of his very best prospect which I am not sure he's ready to do.

Feaster was interviewed on McCown's show (but not by McCown) and he said he doesn't believe in the restocking the cupboard technique hoping that you just happen to draft the right guy, and that he develops the way you hope. He made it sound that Iginla isnt going anywhere, and while he is in the job, he will be looking to add to what they already have, not rebuilding because he doesn't believe in waiting 3-4-5 yrs and he thinks that Calgary doesn't need to wait that long. One of the guys said "Your provincial cousins are doing ok by drafting and developing, and restocking the cupboards" Feaster responded "They have been doing it for awhile now, and I don't recall them winning any Stanley Cups recently"

Boyle too. That team had a plethora of important players that were earlier in their careers. Calgary isn't a young team in that the players they rely on are not in the prime of their careers.

If what Feaster is saying publicly, is really what he intends to do, they'll be a lottery team for at least 3 seasons. Good luck Jay Fester, pun intended.

Hypothetical, but just for discussion sake....if we could acquire Iginla for our top prospect, would you make the trade? I know we may have to toss in a player also to get under the cap. But main part of deal would be a LeBlanc for Iglina

But main part of deal would be a LeBlanc for Iglina LeBlanc will never be an Iginla, but then again Iginla will never be an Igninla again either. Any way you look at it, the Habs will come out with the $hitty end of the stick if the acquire Iginla, IMHO.

hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=869147Discussion here about a St Louis beat reporter suggesting that the Habs have made an official overture to the Flames front office about acquiring Iggy. Flames have been very good of late, and are 4 points out. This success makes it easier for Feaster to stick to his guns regarding not trading the core.

The problem is the cap hit their contracts bring for years. At least we get LeBlanc without the co$t vs an ageing production dropping Vinny or Jarome. (we could do without Gomez and his cap too). Gomer at least skates between the bluelines. Gomez needs a partner like Jamie Sale to complement his skating style.
