Just heard on the radio that the Bruins are in cap trouble once Marc Savard comes back. Apparently to alleviate that the Bruins are looking at moving Savard to Phoenix for defenceman, Keith Yandle. I'm on www.nhlnumbers.com and I can't believe how much they're also paying Chara. Peter Chiarelli did a good job in building his team, but the salaries looking they're coming back to haunt him. Just one question though. Nothing's official on this (which is why it's in the rumour thread) but how would losing Savard affect the Bruins? Cheers.

If Savard actually does come back (thats still iffy), my bet is that Boston will trade Ryder and Sturm and keep Savard. Then a prospect will be given a chance ... or whoever they get back in return

who am I and what do I know . . . but I can't see Phoenix trading away Yandle -- especially for a guy who will now be brittle/won't be able to play "his" game for the next 7 years . . . $4M cap hit not-withstanding.
think about it: Phoenix paying a player $7, $7, $6.5, and $5? Phoenix?

The Bruins cap issues have been talked about a fair bit the last couple of weeks in the media. CBC hotstove did a bit about it. They're definitely looking to make at least one move.
I think they have an easier time moving Savard (once healthy). The fact he came back and played at all last year is pretty scary, and in the long run likely did permanent damage.
Ryder at $4 million just isn't as attractive, even though he's off to a pretty good start. Sturm? He's Glass Joe. Doubt anyone looking for more than perhaps a deadline acquisition really considers him.

Phoenix? There's no way I trade Yandle for Savard if I'm Phoenix. Too risky. too expensive. I wish we had Yandle. As CO says, fast skating, puck moving defenseman are a hot commodity these days in th NHL.

Yandle is a little known, underappreciated gem. PHoenix would be nuts to trade him, even for a healthy Savard. We all know how important it is to develop from the defense out. ;D

Yandle for Savard is a steal.
Phoenix would be nuts, IMO.

Ryder is UFA at the end of this year ... you don't have to live with 4 million very long, unlike Savard's contract.
