The Washington Capitals have traded forward Tomas Fleischmann to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for veteran defenceman Scott Hannan.
Fleischmann, 26, has four goals and six assists in 23 games this season. Last year, he had offensive career-highs with 23 goals and 28 assists.
The Czech Republic-native had been the subject of trade rumours for several weeks. Some reports suggested that the Los Angeles Kings also had interest in Fleischmann.
Fleischmann started the season as the team's number-two centre, but has recently been a healthy scratch for Washington.
Hannan, 31, is a veteran of 11 NHL seasons. He will be joining his third club, after playing with the Avalanche and the San Jose Sharks.
The native of Richmond, B.C. has six assists in 23 games this season.TSNdon't tell me trades aren't made mid-season.

I'm wondering if we couldn't have used Hannan ourselves. A veteran, LH d-man to play along side of Subban.
Ah well ...
Cheers.

Did we have a Fleischman to give up? Our closest would be Pouliot .....

I am happier with the "D" than I am with the forwards. Subban and Markov will anchor the team for the foreseeable future. Weber can contribute (if he is either sent down to play or brought up to play but not brought up to sit. WASTE) After that we have some safe veterans that stay back and Gill who has his head in the clouds. (better than having his head up his @ss like Komisarek) We will be letting some "D" go next year and can enter the free agent market then if necessary. Our forwards are small and fast. We have four third lines. They work the system and work hard. Don't see a Rocket, Lafleur or Geoffrion on the horizon. No Beliveau, Moore or Lemaire either. Cammellari is a poor mans Shutt, our best forward. No Crosby, Ovi or Stamkos in sight. Very glad there is no Lecavalier either.
