TSN hypefest known as TSN Trade Centre is on, and they're saying that Ruutu may be available.
He's mean, plays with size, dirty, has lots of playoff experience, and cheap. Merely looking at cheap veteran depth for the bottom 6, would you be interested if the price was something akin to a 5th rounder?
I'm tempted because he brings a serious edge we don't have. He's a Claude Lemieux without the offense, but can definitely get people off their game.

McKenzie had an article saying Zach Bogosian is available. Would this be a defenseman the Habs be interested in?

He's 20 years old with that kind of raw talent. Have to kick the tires at least?

I agree too. Find out the cost. Off the top of my head ... they're thin on talent up front. Their two leading scores are Buff and Enstrom, both defenders. Andrew Ladd, having a career year for himself, has 40 points. Little is their best offensive center, with Peverly right behind (33 and 31 points respectively). Stewart and Kane are nice young power forwards.
Maybe the framework of a deal starts with a talented young center? You can bet Louis Leblanc is on their radar. Gomez will be off contract just when Louis is ready to hopefully take his place. I personally think he's a keeper, and off limits. We could talk about Eller or Desharnais though. After that, likely a first rounder and something else.

I think Eller has more upside than Louis. Bigger and stronger, though I like both. I also think Michael Bournival is looking interesting. Leblanc's scoring has dried up recently, while Bournival has just kept chuggin.

I don't think Louis will lack too much in puck strength. What he showed me at the WJC was a player capable of being a stronger Plekanec. I think he's got a better shot than Eller at this point too - Lars' biggest weakness imo.

I'd be interested in Ruutu, I would think the price would be fairly cheap, and we could use his style of play in the playoffs, if we meet up with the flyers.
As for Bogosian, I think the price would be very steep, like a first, second, Webber and maybe would have to throw Louis in there.....too much IMO.

As for Bogosian, I think the price would be very steep, like a first, second, Webber and maybe would have to throw Louis in there.....too much IMO. I would do a first, second and Weber for Bogosian, especially considering the second would have to be next year's. I wouldn't throw in Leblanc though. Both Bogosian and Weber have unknown potential, but Bogosian has a much, much higher ceiling. Could be a bigger PK Subban (I said "could"). He's only 20, and a recent 3rd overall draft pick. If the season were to end today we'd be picking 22nd. The 22nd overall, Weber and a 2nd round pick for the 3rd overall? I'd do that in a heartbeat. Having said that, I don't think there is much of a match, us and Atlanta (nor, for that matter, do I think Bogosian is really on the market, but that's just me). Atlanta has powerwingers coming out the wazoo, and with Byfuglien and Enstrom on defense they don't need an offensive guy like Weber. They could use a center, but with Little and Burmistrov as their future I don't think they will be looking at one of our little guys, like a Desharnais or something. Heck, they also have Cormier and Antropov as centers, so they're not really hurting there for size either. It's hard to say given their ownership situation and all, but I would think that they would be looking for a clear and away upgrade on Antropov and Little, especially if Bogosian is on the table. I'm thinking somebody like Jason Spezza would be on their radar, as they push for the playoffs. Not sure we can match that.

Atlanta in fight for playoff spot, one of few years they get chance to get in playoffs. I imagine they would be looking for help now instead of draft picks. Habs looking for a defenseman with size. Don't get too many chances to get players with Bogosian upside. Might be able to get a little him a little cheaper than usual.

To get back to the original thread , the Habs had a similar player & traded him - Lapierre.

They are both agitators who are supposed to chip in with a goal or too while driving the opposition to distraction. IMO, Ruutu isn't what this team needs. He isn't a deterrent to the crap we saw last night..
