IMO, Markov is better. Markov can do the things Kaberle does well, and still play defense. The only way it makes any sense is if Tomas takes considerably less.

Gorges should be cheap to sign long term, and is perfect for the 3-6 role. He's better in his own end too.

That's assuming Markov can even play , and if he can, that he plays at the same level ..... I would have traded Markov last year (in the NOT go for it year which almost turned into a surprise year). I'd still shop him around - look how good we are this year without him.

Gorges is cheaper than Kaberle. I posted before that I'd love to get Josh locked up to a 5 year deal for $2.25-$2.5 million a season. I think that's pretty fair value.

Bob Mackenzie, on the Team 990 this morning, said that he thinks both Blake Wheeler and Tomas Kaberle will be on the move today...
This is gonna be a tough one for us Hab fans. Kaberle is exactly what the Bruins need; a smooth, puck moving defenseman. He's played as a #1 in Toronto - and been a pretty good one there too, in my opinion - and now he'll be a solid #2. That can only make him better. Plus, Kaberle doesn't strike me as the type who is going to want to see what the free agent market is like. Once he gets to Boston, assuming it isn't a total disaster for him there, I would expect him to resign and stay there. With Savard likely done the Bruins should have more than enough money lying around.
Brian Burke is from the Boston area isn't he? You don't think he's secretly trying to build a ...
Nah.

You're right though - if this happens the Bruins are better on the back end & the MTL D corps continues to be depleted & only just patched up. Yuk

Finalized as per TSN. www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=354402The Bruins have added two very key elements in Kelly and Kaberle. A tough forward and an impact defenceman. Sounds like a familiar scenario. Cheers.

Maybe Boston thinks they can sign him. Giving up Colbourne is a talented and very promising kid to give up. He could be the next Jumbo Joe.

Wheeler is a good player. I guess in order for us to make deals we'll have to give up players like Plekanec and Weber for a decent return.

I predict the deal will be Joe Colbourne and Boston own choice in 2011 draft, not the Leafs pick for Kaberle. Hey, the trade was pretty well what I predicted last week. I kind of figured Burkie would go for Colbourne

The knock on Colbourne is that although he is 6'6" he plays liek 5'10" & doesn't use his size. I guess we''ll have to wait & see.

Hell, it took Pronger several years to sort things out. Colbourne is an 18 year old kid. It takes time getting used to that sort of frame. Once he stops growing vertically, and puts on some muscle, I think the rest will come. If he gets strong enough all he has to do is put himself between the puck and the opposition. They'll take a penalty before they get the puck from him.

If he ever adds a physical dimension to his game to go along with his good hands, he will be a decent player.

Burke actually got a lot in return for Kaberle. More than I thought he would get.
TO's defense sure looks suspect now. I guess Boston wins that part too as their remaining first round pick looks to be a pretty sure bet for a top five.

Stinks big time.

The Bruins are now set to give the Flyers a good series. Kelly is a character guy (still not sure why Murray chose to send him packing) who will look good in a Bruins uniform. In Kaberle they get a puck-moving, PP quarterback.
But, what I like the most about these deals is that the Bruins didn't touch their existing rosters to pull them off. Charelli could easily afford the costs of preparing for the Flyers.
Cheers.

Kelly is a character guy (still not sure why Murray chose to send him packing) age. by the time the Senators get around to the playoffs/contending again Kelly would be big on the downside of his career. may as well get something for him while you can. Alfie will retire a Sen so he won't go anywhere
