They continue to make noise at this year's trade deadline. Johnson is another one the Habs should have bid high on
The St. Louis Blues made their second major deal in less than 24 hours when they dealt former No. 1 overall pick Erik Johnson to Colorado early Saturday.
Hours after sending captain Eric Brewer to Tampa Bay for junior defenseman Brock Beukeboom and a draft pick, the Blues dealt Johnson, also a defenseman, to the Avs along with forward Jay McClement and a first-round pick for rookie defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, third-year forward Chris Stewart and a second-round pick.

not sure what the blues are about. they had a "guaranteed to make the playoffs" special this year -- if they don't make it season ticket holders can re-up next year at half price. are they giving up? shedding salary?
what would we have had to give up? Patches and a dman not named Subban?

Shocked about this one. Stewart and Johnson are the big pieces obviously. Shattenkirk is a promising young forward in his first NHL season.
It's hard to say how public the Blues were with this one. I can't blame PG if the Blues kept it quiet and eyes the Avs specifically.
I'm really surprised to see the Blues trading away, not only two defenders, but Johnson. He was supposed to be the cornerstone.

Shattenkirk is a dman that replaces dman Johnson, and McClement is a forward that replaces forward Stewart. Still pretty big pieces moving from each team.
No way we could have made a deal like this, unless we'd be willing to give up our top young dman and top young forward.

Brewer is the one Habs should have jumped on, he didn't go for nothing. The third round pick in this draft is not much, as it is a weak draft once past the first 15-20-25 picks. Brewer is a big veteran defenseman who can log a ton of minutes. Taking the wear and tear off our top 3

He's a rental. Brewer is going to become a UFA this summer.

I know that...I wanted Brewer for his size and strength in front of net and lessen the minutes top 3 are playing. He is top 3 quality and can play a ton of minutes. Not giving up much to get him. It is win-win trade

This guy would have been a great fit on our team. And he was the Blues' captain to boot.
Man!!

I like what the Blues got. Stewart looks like a good young power forward on the rise and Shattenkirk can put the points up. Johnson looks good but doesn't seem to have the offence that was expected of him. Time will tell...
