Dallas got him for Mike Smith, Jussi Jokinen & Jeff Halpern - and that was when he was under contract & a little younger.
Not sure waht he would cost as he's now a rental. Also, isn't he recovering from a concussion?

To land Richards it would likely cost dearly! Subban!! Here we go again, every player to come available people think it will cost Subban. Subban is non-touchable. Playing #1 minutes at 21, he is franchise defenseman. Habs never trade Subban for a rental(even if he would signed long term) or a Goligoski. Richards should fetch about what Hossa bought Atlanta 2 years ago. We'd be looking at a top 6 forward plus our pick and probably a prospect.

Not saying they would...just that's what they would want...Blue chip prospects.

The trade was Hossa and Dupuis for Colby Armstrong, Eric Christensen, Angelo Esposito & a first rounder. No impressive names in there, even at the time of the trade. EDIT: just looked at Esposito's stats. No NHL experience yet. He's played 52 AHL games & has 12 points - yikes!

... and to think there were people in Quebec clamoring for Montreal to draft the figure skater ...
Richards will fetch a serious prize, or should. Who knows considering what Newy took for Neal. He's a winner, consistent performer, two way player, MVP, etc. Those credentials should net a greater return than Hossa did.
The fact he's nursing concussion like symptoms is a concern for anyone interested. It may mean that those interested just wait until the summer. The Rags might take a stab regardless.

I'd stay away from Richards for now. Maybe go after him July 1. No sense giving up top assets for someone experiencing post-concussion symptoms and who may or not sign with us anyway. Just imagine trading Patches/picks/prospect A B & C for Richards and he takes another head shot a week into his tenure and is done for the season. Then what? I like picking up a rental like Arnott for far less and taking our chances on Richards July 1 personally.

We ALL know he wants to go to the Leafs. Seriously folks.......amazing that Dallas is willing to trade a franchise forward when they're knocking on a playoff door.

Dallas' ownership situation is likely the driving factor behind the potential trade. If they feel they won't be able to afford him, trade him now. Get as much as possible. If teams balk now cause of his health, maybe you get a pick for him by trading his rights at the draft.
For the record, I wouldn't go all out for him now. I'm not convinced Montreal is a market he's really interested in playing in long term. July 1, have a strong pitch ready. Include an offer, and perhaps a call from Gio and a few other players. If he goes for it, great. If not, move on.

Rumour from RDS.ca: translated The New York Rangers would be in the race to secure the services of Brad Richards of the Dallas Stars but the price would be higher than expected. According to the New York Post, the Stars ask for Brandon Dubinsky, Derek Stepan and defenseman Marc Staal.

Holy crap. That's insane. The only way I even REMOTELY consider that is if Brad signs an extension upon arriving in NYC.
I'm hearing that he may be headed for the IR.
