Is this the year...
Let the Jeff Carter to Toronto rumors begin (if they haven't already).
Personally I think there is no way the Flyers trade Carter, nor do they have to. I think they'll do something like Matt Carle and Michael Leighton to Columbus, for the 8th overall pick. Maybe Kris Versteeg or Braydon Coburn instead of Carle. Whatever, but not Carter. Then sign Brygalov to a five year, $27 million contract. Too much in my opinion, but that's probably what it will take. And if doesn't work out, they simply ship him off to the AHL or KHL.
That's what I think anyways.

I didn't think he was all that stellar in last year's playoffs to be honest. However, he's probably better than what has occupied the Philadelphia goal in recent years.
Good luck to him.
Cheers.

It going to take some fancy cap jiggling to make this work .... but if they pull it off, it is further proof that we can afford to make a pitch for Brad Richards.
At the moment, the Flyers have 18 players under contract (10 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies) totalling 59 million dollars.
Some have speculated the cap will go up to as much as 63 million. I have to think, that Bryzgalov will want at least 4.5 million, and on the open market, you can bet he will go for a high as 5.5 million ... so let's assume 5 million.
I would think that if Bryz signs that would mean that Philly is going to put Bobrovsky in the minors - he has $850,000 of his $1.75 million cap hit tied into playing bonuses ... what better way of saving that money than letting him stew in the minors. Of course this means that they will have to either use Leighton as a back-up (and only save $200,000 - Leighton's cap hit is $1.55 million), or bury both in the minors.
If they dump Bobrovsky and keep Leighton, they'd have 62.25 million commited, and they'd also have to then sign Carcillo, Nodl, Powe and a defenseman to fill out their roster ... Carcillo, Nodl and Powe are all RFAs with a combined cap hit of 2.65 million. That 7th defenseman will have to be a prospect, perhaps Eric Gustafsson (900k) ....
IF the cap raises to 63 million, the Flyers will have to shed about 2.5-3.0 million in salary. If it goes up to around 61 million, they'll have to shed 4.5-5.0 million. The Flyers must be pretty darn sure that it is going to 63 million .... if it is, I say PG better go hard after top tier UFAs like Richards.

Every years the Flyers are said to be in deep CAP trouble and every year they manage throught it.
Now they have a Bona Fide stater. Holmgren is ALWAYS on the lookout.

Signed for 9 years and $51 million; a $5.7 million cap hit. That's a lot of money for a 30-year old goalie, who is good, I wouldn't call him great.
Carey Price is going to be looking for that cash in a couple of years. Honestly, I HATE paying a goalie that much for THAT long a period. Other than Roy and Brodeur, I think goalies can be very inconsistent from year to year. Tim Thomas was great this year and lousy last year. Carey Price was great this year and so-so last year. I bet the Canucks are thinking twice about that Luongo contract.

Ridiculous money for Bryzgalov, but with the cap rising and rising such contracts aren't looking that bad in a couple of years. And there is always the chance to let him play in Europe or in the AHL.
If Carey is in the Roy/Brodeur league he will deservedly get this money in Montreal, otherwise he will earn it somewhere else.

Personally, I think Holmgren took a few too many punches in his playing days.
