Gauthier travaille présentement sur un dossier. Je serais pas surpris qu'il veuille refiler les droits de Wisniewski et + pour un 2e choix. - Marc Antoine Godin

I understand that to say that PG has received an offer of a second rounder for his rights. Is that right? I rather have Wizniewski than the pick. We should be getting younger on D. Not trading Wizniewski & signing Gill. Jeez.

has he been given a realistic bona-fide offer? has he refused it because he is going to check out the market?
OK, take the pick. with exclusive rights the team will overpay if they really want him [more than the Habs would be willing to pay]; if he doesn't take the offer because it isn't enough we see what the market will be and go after him again July 1.

As much as I want to keep him I'd take the pick as well better than seeing him walk..in this case they should have floaedt him an offer to see what it may take.

Wait a minute....
We haven't signed him even though I assume that we already made him a decent offer, but we refuse a second rounder?
Great asset management!

If we could sign Wiz for around 4 million a year I would resign him and probably traded Gorges for another high first round pick. And/or packaged Gorges with a center and prospect for true #1 center.
The team changed for the good when we acquired Wiz. He added grit and offense from the blueline. Without a #1 center goals scored will have to increase and best way, at this point, will be from the blueline. Unless PG trades Gomez and dips in the free agent market for Richards or somebody who can score. Which I doubt.
The Habs have tried to balance scoring across three lines, last year and back when they traded for Bonk and it does not work out. Instead of taking offensive players who aren't good enough top six minutes and try to milk a few extra goals out of the team. Best to keep either the physical line or the energy line and go with two offensive lines. Get the extra goals created from the blueline

Thanks Patty. If he's trying to do that then he probably has no intention of signing him. I wouldn't be surprised if Wiz's demands on the Habs at this point is close to $5 million per on a longterm deal. I think that more than anything else is why PG has turned the page. It's probably a longshot, but maybe we could try to trade his rights to Detroit for the rights to Jonathan Ericsson?

I'd love for the Habs to keep Wiz but the money that's been mentioned makes me think someone else will pay it. Wiz at $4M or more is an overpayment imo.

Bieksa just re-signed in Vancouver for 5 years, $23m, for an average cap hit of $4.6m. Probably a good comp for Wiz. Bieksa is older (30 years old, vs 27 for Wiz) and probably isn't as good a point-getter as Wisniewski, but arguably a better all around dman and plays a nastier game. Wiz should get between $4-5m.

Lots of sites saying Bruins will try to sign Wiz Wouldn't that be a real kick in the teeth. JW killing the Habs on the PP while wearing a Bruins uniform. PG trades a second for him & now doesn't appear to want to re-sign him. Gauthier is too busy putting together the oldest D in the league.

With Pitkanen re-signing, the Wiz will be in huge demand on Friday. A draft pick for exclusive rights to chat to him would not hurt my feelings right now. If Goat thinks that Markov can stay healthy, Subban will continue to develop into a star, and guys like Diaz/Weber and eventually Beaulieu will all bring offense from the back end, then I guess letting a valuable asset walk is understandable...but not for nothing.

As I said in the Hamrlik thread, I really don't understand the fascination with Wiz. He's a one-dimensional player, and weak defensively. There's a reason that he's played on 4 teams in such a short time.
