tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369971He's off to the Sabres after agreeing to waive his NTC. Kotalik goes with him for a second tour of duty with Buffalo. The Flames also included a second in the deal. In return, they get Paul Byron and Chris Butler and a second.

Well, Buffalo (and our division) just got tougher. Toronto, Boston, Buffalo.....heads up, Habbies.
Clue in, Gauthier.

IMO Regehr replaces Rivet, so that's a wash.

This is a deal that Gauthier should have, and could have, made.
I would have given up Weber and Palushaj for Regehr, Kotalik and the 2nd.
Bury Kotalik in the minors. Adding a 2nd would have been great for us and could have been used at the 2012 deadline to bring in some reinforcements for the playoff push. Regehr would have really rounded out our D.

IMO Regehr replaces Rivet, so that's a wash. Regehr is much better than Rivet at this stage. Rivet was a healthy scratch more often than not last season. Regehr is a legit top 4 d-man.

Regher is a defenceman I've coveted alot over the years; he's certainly a player I'd have made a pitch for.

...and how would we have made room for Regehr's $5m contract?

His salary is actually $4.020 million.
Habs could have fit him in, re-signed Gorges ($2.75), Auld or similar ($1), White ($500k) and would have been left with approx. $6.5 million to sign 2 forwards.
And thats with Spacek sticking around.

Regher hits to hurt. Huge body and nasty disposition? What's not to like? And he would only cost us 2 million more then paying the over the hill giant turtle.
He needs a great, puck rushing defenseman to play beside him and me thinks we got a couple of them....and more on the way.
This, the Filitov and Brouwer trades is what I expect from goat......but will never get.
Last year, it was Ladd, Eager and Buff. That trade would add big time size and attitude.....and we may be celebrating a cup today.
