tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=370797Cody Franson and Matt Lombardi head to Toronto for Brett Lebda, Robert Slaney, and a conditional 4th (contingent on Lombardi playing a specific number of games over the next two seasons). Did I miss something, or did Cody Franson's stock drop dramatically?

Is Lombardi even going to play? Did the leafs have to take him to get Franson?

More or less I guess. His concussion symptoms are still an issue apparently.

Poor Franson, from a solid, steady organization to (drum roll) the wackiest party in the NHL.
I don't see that either BLNY, and the only thing that makes me pause from saying "What a steal for the Leafs", is the fact that Nashville's GM is Poile and they really know their defensemen.
Is Franson one of the guys who may not have been qualified, ala S. Kostitsyn?

Seems like the Leafs got the best of this deal, and by a fair bit. We must be missing something.
The Preds do draft defensemen as well as any team...but....why give one away for this return?

Leafs make out like bandits in this deal. Has to be cash reasons. Lombardi is out long term - LTIR tag will prevent Lombardi from sucking up cap space, but the Preds still have to pay his salary. The Leafs can probably afford to pay a guy to sit at home - Nashville, not so much.
Wish we had been in on it though. This organization should be able to eat salary like that. Franson is a good, young, puck moving defenseman and would probably push to make the pro team this year.

Heard Bill Watters talking about this on AM640 this afternoon.
He's curious about why Franson was traded. He described hinm as somewhat soft(only about 50 minutes of penalties the last 2 seasons).
He likes the deal but isn't joining the rave reviews some fans are giving Burke.
