For anson Carter, looks like straight up. I know everyone is down on Jagr, but this deal scares me as a habfan. Jagr will be looking to prove himself and will look good next to Nedved again

And the Caps are picking up 20million of his salary over the next 4 years.
Looks like a raw deal for the Caps:
Instead of paying Jagr's full salary and having him in the lineup, they now pay half his salary, and Carter's full salary while significantly downgrading talentwise at the RW position.

The concept of a salary dump seems lost when you are out of pocket $20M over 4 years. How is this a good deal for the Caps?
If the Rags finally shore up their defensive woes, they could be gearing to be right back in that darn playoff race.

What are their realistic chances of finding adequate replacements for Kasparaitis and de Vries on short notice? And they have 3 other injured or banged-up Ds. They play Ottawa tomorrow without Lindros (flu). They have a bit of catching up to do, and they play the Habs only once more.

I agree that they have some gaping holes in their lineup, but it may be the NYR that occupy 8th spot instead on their Long Island neighbours. If the Habs keep on doing what they are doing now, it doesn't really matter who NYR have in their lineup.

That's it, isn't it! We're looking forward, not backward.

If the Rangers finish 8th, the Habs are unlikely to face them in the playoffs unless the Rangers upset Ottawa (my prediction for first overall, and if you look at the standings you can see that they could be there as soon as tomorrow by beating the Rangers while the Habs do them a favor by blowing down les feuilles mortes).

I know it was just one game but Ottawa exposed the Ranger's flaws last night. They need goaltending & defense.
It was funny watching Hot Stove last night. In the middle of the blowout they were talking about what a great deal it was for New York.
