I wouldn't deal Dykhuis to the Rags if we don't get a useful player in return. They're gunning for our playoff spot, I see no need to help them along. But if they're interested in Traverse............

Talent schmalent. Jagr'll be good for about a dozen games and then he'll fall back to sleep. If he wakes up. Rangers are not a threat to the Habs -- especially if we keep winning! The only team that is sure not to be a threat to the Habs after this liquidation sale is the Capitals. Should Gainey do something to compete with the "improvements" of the opposition? Or does Gainey remain calm and wait it out? Don't fix it if it ain't broke...but when the guys in the lanes next to soup up their engines....isn't incumbent upon you to do something? If that something is nothing, then I trust Gainey. If the Leafs get Gonchar...oh man. It'll be bigger for the fans than the Nolan pick-up last year. The old 1967 floats will see new rubber. Did they have rubber tires in 67?

My meaning: that we need not worry about Rags improvement if we keep winning. They can't catch us if we match them point for point (though I'm greedy -- I want more than them, more than anyone else!). Slats is desperate -- he sees the writing on the wall -- this year or out. BG, on the other hand, is just beginning, and he will return the team to former glory, through careful trades, drafts, and call-ups. I anticipate . . . slow and steady over the course of the next few years. No biggie this year.

Buy a Super 7 ticket for tonight, who knows, you might actually get Jagr's salary for the year if you win

I'm surprised this thread has remained on the Discussion forum so long without being moved to the Trades forum.

I'd love to see Gainey do some wheeling and dealing and get his nose dirty in this one... Even though he's rebounded this year, imagine if gainey could manage to get gonchar (for a young guy, say hossa or hainsey) and then ship out brisebois (to a team looking to bolster their blueline for the playoffs, like say the Blues) to make room for him. Essentially they are similar players except that gonchar is younger, more talented and a little more expensive... a d core with gonchar, markov, souray, rivet, quintal and komi/bouillion would be pretty hard to deal with come playoff time!

The Rangers traded for Pushor, so Dykhuis will stay where he is.

Ok everyone, repeat after me: "There will be no trades, there will be no trades, there will be no trades." Did I mention that the Habs will make no trades? Why upset the apple cart? Gainey is too patient a man/GM - especially when the team is doing well - to make a trade just because the competition is making a trade.
