Bob MacKenzie tweeted last night that Anaheim has officially come out and said the only two untouchable players on their roster are Selanne and Koivu. Calls to Anaheim are about to pick up. Here's his retweet. Follow the timeline of quotes from GM Bob Murray during/after the loss last night. twitter.com/#!/helenenothelen

Something's wrong in Anaheim obviously and Brian Burke just happens to be the Ducks main trading partner. I guess we might see a full heart transplant in Anaheim. Wonder what the problems are there. Cheers. Edit: Darren Dreger picked up on it too. Here's a link to The Bleacher Report. Just some speculation on potential players up for grabs. Cheers.

Cheers. Hard to say Dis. We're asking the same questions here this year. I think groups just get stale. A team's core has a shelf life. Once it expires things go pear shaped. On paper, their forward corps is good and the D is a bit thin. The stats are a real eye opener. Koivu and Parros are their ONLY forwards with plus ratings (who've played more than 20 games). Perry and Getzlaf are both nearing on -20. Neither is scoring at their typical rate either. Cam Fowler is -19.

I've been hearing that Montreal won't make any trades until after Markov returns after the Allstar game, PG keeps saying its hard to make a move if you don't know what kind of a team we have. I would expect that if we make any kind of trade it will be for a 4th line player like Parros.

He's capable of playing a regular shift and keeping people honest while doing it.

If PG doesn't know what he has by now ...
I'd be on the phone so fast asking "What's it gonna take to get Getlaf". He'd be neglectiful in his duties as GM of the Habs to not at the very least inquire

How can their only untouchables be two of the oldest forwards on the team? Perry was a 50 goal scorer & MVP last year & he's available? I'm sure lots of people will be calling about Ryan, Getzlaf & Perry although those are the guys I would want to keep. If PG doesn't know what he has now then he's a worse GM than I thought. As Skilly posted, if he doesn't pick up the phone & ask Murray what's going on then he is not doing his job.

I relate this to what Josh Gorges said about the wholesale changing of the guard. Things were getting kind of stagnent he said. Like you said, though, the team's core has a shelf life. Interesting about Fowler, though. I was on the Fantasy pool page before coming into work and I notice then that he was -19. I'd still ask about him though. I think that stat might be reflective of the self-life expiration date. Cheers.

If PG doesn't know what he has by now ... Indeed ... Just for squats and giggles, can you imagine if Leblanc were part of a deal for Getzlaf? Like you said earlier, though, it's bad enough they can't find a position for him with the big club. Would be interesting to hear the exchanges, who's offerring what, etc. Cheers.

I guess he want to see what happens when Gomez, Gionta and Markov return and starts playing the new system. There's a system ;D That's what I heard, I guess RC's system is the best defence is a great offence. He feels he has the horses to run and gun with any team in the NHL and feels that we have the dmen and goal tender that can back up the forwards. He wants the forwards to be attacking every chance they get...sort of how they play the PK....pressure the puck carrier at all times...no room to move the puck. If true, it should make for some fun games to watch.

The only combination I'd be iffy on is Subban/Pacioretty, but I'd jump all over Subban/Leblanc and I like all three of those guys I'd start with Cammalleri, one of Tinordi/Beaulieu and Pacioretty. But, in addition to Getzlaf I'd ask for Cam Fowler as well. Removing Cammalleri's salary cap hit ($7 million next year) would probably free up some monies for the impending FAs we have coming due at the end of the season. By that time the club will have 15 UFA/RFA on its roster. I don't know 'what they'll be offerring who,' but they'll have to negotiate with Price as well, then Getzlaf, himself, the year after next (or before as he's an UFA in 13/14). That cap really keeps things in perspective. One guy who might also do well with a change of scenery is Paul Stastny. He's not having the best of seasons right now. Cheers.

I haven't checked the cap situation but if it's do-able would you do it? Cheers.

God, I would love to get Ryan Getzlaf.
The issue with both Getzlaf and Perry is that they are signed through next season only and then are UFAs after that. You can't unload the farm when you would only have the player for a year. Some kind of sign-and-trade would need to be worked out or conditional compensation if we can sign the player to a long-term deal.
So Anaheim is in a bit of a bind. Getzlaf and Perry are two of the best hockey players in the league, but the lack of a long-term deals makes it hard to trade for them since the risk is all on the buyer to sign them to a deal a year before they go UFA. What agent would let his client do that?
That said, do you trade for Getzlaf and hope you can sign him before he goes UFA? I might consider it but it would limit the players/picks going back. I'm sure Anaheim would want an established young player, a high level prospect, and a high pick(s).

I don't see how Gezlaf for one year is better than Pleks for the next few years. I don't think he or Perry can turn this team around all in one year. After the Gomez trade and looking how Cammalleri is performing this year, I'd be really careful about projecting how Gezlaf or Perry would fit in here.
If we are going to give up a player like Pekanec, Cammalleri or any of our young defensemen or top picks, I want a blue chip prospect (s). Someone like Fowler and Smith-Pelly, for example.

I think the Habs have the guns to get Getzlaf(the Laffs don't) but if they knew Markov was going to come back and eventually play to his old level then this deal would be a lot easier to make.
If Markov is OK I'd offer Cammy, Beaulieu, Weber maybe Gallagher or and a pick. If there is anyway I can keep Eller and Pleks in the fold then I'm set at center especially if they decide to eat Gomez's salary.
Markov IMO is the key in this evaluation... plus no way Tinordi gets away.
If PK is a keeper I'd rather give up on NB if they become certain of Markov otherwise I sit tight and see what next year brings.

The question is who drives the bus in Anaheim? Is it Perry or Getz. You'd have to overpay to get either.
