Read a post on another site where someone stated that the team told Moen he wasn't going anywhere. It was said on the TSN broadcast by John Lu.
Did anyone else hear this?

I never heard this but it would not suprise me. Heard before they wanted to re-sign Moen

Word is that Gorges went to mgt and expressed that he felt it would be wrong to let Moen go. After that meeting, mgt apparently went to Moen and told him not to worry.

Well, sounds like Moen is off the market. I kind of would liked the young d-man Oulette but you never know. Maybe Timmins not that high on him because of sight build, I don't know.

I just hope they extend his contract.
I don't want to lose him (or Campoli, or AK) for nothing....

My philosophy is that we have enough slight defenders. There's no indication to me that he's any better.

if they aren't going to resign him [if talks aren't on NOW] then they should trade for something. I'm tired of UFAs walking when we don't plan to make an offer.

Bob Mckenzie said yesterday on 990 - Habs don't plan on trading Moen unless a great offer comes in for him.
Mckenzie also said he expects Kostitsyn to be traded

Mckenzie also said he expects Kostitsyn to be traded I hope they are just trying to drive up the asking price for Moen (though I'm not sure they are that clever). Don't get me wrong, I like Moen. I like Moen a lot, and he definitely fits a need on this team. But let's not get carried away. He has 16 points this year. His career high is 19. He brings size and toughness, for sure, and apparently a good deal of leadership too, but he ain't core. If there is a second round pick on the table I'm taking it. While this isn't a great year for free agents, there are nonetheless some guys who could fill the Moen role who might be available, including of course Moen himself, who might come back. But I'm thinking of guys like Arron Asham, Tanner Glass, Paul Gaustad, Shawn Thornton, Brad Winchester, Taylor Pyatt, Tim Jackman, Darcy Hordichuk, Adam Hall... I'm just going down the capgeek.com list of UFAs and I think Moen can be replaced. Are any of those guys AS GOOD as Moen? Perhaps not. But I don't think the drop-off is huge, not if we're adding a pick and/or prospect. Asham and a 2nd round pick for Moen? Where do I sign?

I would add Konopka to that list as well, iirc, he's a FA, only signed a 1 year deal with the Sens. Asham, Konopka and White (white and asham are right wingers but that would be one tough line).

Word is that Gorges went to mgt and expressed that he felt it would be wrong to let Moen go. Say it isn't so. Please. Active d-men playing GM...Good Lord. EVERYONE on this team, for the right price, is available. Stick to playing "D", Josh.

much as I like Josh, I can't figure this one out.
first, a d-man is going to tell a GM what to do? [OK, if he says "get Crosby" I can deal with it].
second, it isn't as if Moen is the second coming of . . . anyone . . . he's a solid hard worker but as Skilly likes to say, they are a dime a dozen, and can be replaced if there isn't a "nudge nudge wink wink" deal with Moen to resign him July 1.

Thing is with Moen you know exactly what you have on the ice and in the dressing room. If you feel you are going to need a similar player next year but dont see a big improvement then you should just keep him. He is happy with the city, the team and the salary then you know he wont be a headache. I think if Moen and White had been in the lineup all season some other guys on the ice would have had a little more room and the Habs might have found those 6-8 points to be in the playoff hunt.

I'm not discounting what he brings to the team...I'm a big fan of Moen....but if the return (offer) is right, it'd be foolish to not accept. Come on now, THIS is what "sellers" do. Josh Gorges, allegedly, running to his GM to state otherwise is waaaaaaaaaay outta bounds from where I sit.

I would sit down with Moen tell him we want to sign him this summer but we can get a good young asset for him now.
