Dreger from TSN is reporting that Marty is going to test the ufa market. He's hired Pat Brisson to represent him, which is news in itself because Marty has gone most of his career without significant representation.

Quite bizarre! ...Obviously Lamoriello may have tried to short change him. It's Marty's last opportunity for big money before retiring, so good luck to him.

Quite strange.
Lamoriello has let the goalie situation in NJ slide for way to long with no signifcant help in sight. As well he's let major free agents walk for nothing like Niedermeyer/ Rafalski etc.
Maybe he should make a play for Luongo.

And yet over the last 15 years his teams have finished with over 100 points a whopping 12 times, and of those three years that they didn't finish with over 100 they finished with 99 and 95 in two of them. I suspect this is just posturing, and that in the end Brodeur will remain a Devil. But then who knows?

Anything is possible. I've got nightmares thinking about him ending up in Toronto and having to see him 6 times a year. :S

"Marty? It's Brian Burke. How does 4 years and $40 million sound to you?"
The very thought makes my stomach turn lol.

Yes but he should have had some sort of succession plan for Brodeur - at least during the last 3 years. He's playing chicken with his goalie when he is in no position to do so.

He's made some miscalculations with salaries that have cost the Devils. If Brodeur and Parise leave, I don't think the Devs will get their 100 points and may struggle. Maybe in the next decade he'll be called unlucky Lou. PS. I still can't figure out why he elected to keep his first rounder this year. Is 2014 that bad? Heck it might be a lottery pick he has to forfeit.

The Devils are on a knife's edge. They came so close this year. If Marty and Zach leave they could go a long time before making the playoffs again.

The Devils looked to be taking him for granted and Marty's position turned out to be, "poop or get off the pot." Didn't blame him at all to be honest. Cheers.

He clearly wanted the second year, and NJ didn't want to fork it over. Brisson got a nice chunk of commission for a few days work.
