there is no way he's worth anywhere near 6 million - what a ridiculous contract.

I know the contract doesn't really mean anything in terms of their MO....but if it wasn't obvious before....that's the type of player the Bruins love and reward. Absolutely no respect for the opposition, and as we all know....the NHL looks the other way. Are we still going to be suffering at their hands? You bet. Staubitz has signed with the Ducks. We've picked up Armstrong and Prust....enough to deter and protect against the likes of the Bruins during the regular season? Not in my estimation. Our guys are still wearing bulls-eyes.

Did someone buy the team from Jacobs while I wasn't looking? What's with the drunken sailor routine? When you overpay someone that badly, it cascades through the whole team. It must be the jerk premium, first Marchand and now Lucic. Lucic is one injury to Chara away from getting a lot of knocks. Paying an enforcer $6MM a year? Wow.

He's not strictly an enforcer, seventeen. He's a Fergie-type who would've been tied for second on our team in scoring last season...and would've led our team in scoring two seasons ago. All while putting up high PIMs.
He may not be worth 6 large....but he has been a huge factor towards the return of the big, bad Bruins. Fits them like a Ference glove.

I still feel the main reason he has as much of an impact as he does is the #33 on the back line. Chara is the toughest guy in the league, so that automatically makes everyone else on the Bruins that much bigger and meaner. If Chara gets hurt, all that pent up vengeance in the other teams will spill over and guess who's going to have to try and take up the mantle? He'll be challenged more often, especially since he can score so it's a win win for any of the tougher guys in the league. That is going to take away from his game. And yes, my theory is predicated on a Chara injury. That's not overly likely, but he's been hurt a bit more recently and he plays a lot of minutes.
As an aside, the expectations for Mr Lucy will now be considerably higher. Not everyone reacts well to that. Gomez at $3MM a year would probably play a lot better than the current Gomez. He probably deserved more than he was earning, but $6MM a year in today's climate is overpaying for Lucic. That's top 10 quartile salary and I doubt Lucy is anywhere near that level. It will be interesting to see how all this works itself out.

Agree...Chara is the key cog. Look what happened in 2011 when he was ill during Game 1 and missed Game 2. We won both games in Boston. As soon as he came back....the Bruins won 4 of the next 5. That was no coincidence, IMO.
Chara's their MVPoliceman, no doubt. Lucic on the Leafs is just Tie Domi with hockey sense. On the Bruins, he's a valuable henchman.
Hopefully, the overpayment further thickens his head and causes his game to suffer.

Lucic is someone who doesn't mind mixing it up...with people he knows he can take on. I remember in the '09 series when Laraque tried to get him off his game, and Milan wasn't interested (interestingly enough). We know the saying: strong like an ox, and almost as smart.

I would gladly have Lucic on the Habs...without the cheap shots and the lame excuses that go with them. What am I saying...he wouldn't get away with that crap if he was a Hab.
