Lebrun saying there is a report out of Newfoundland that Clowe is going to go to Philly ... not sure about that one. I would think that Philly is in more of a sell mode ... Flyers are only two points out of the final playoff spot. Rumors are its Couturier going the other way. Rumors are, anyways... Philly be crazy to give up on Couturier

Sometimes, the best deals are those you don't make and in Clowe's case, that might be true for the Habs.

If they are getting Couturier, then they are idiots for not going through with it......but I suspect it's BS for a rental.

Flyers are only two points out of the final playoff spot. Rumors are its Couturier going the other way. Rumors are, anyways... Well, the Flyers are only two points out of 8th. I don't know how many assets Holmgren has left but I can't see them pulling off enough deals to make themselves contenders. I don't have the experience Holmgren does, but if it were up to me I'd: a. hang onto what assets I had, b. I'd stop signing players to ridiculous contracts, and c. I'd wait until a lot of my players returned off the IR. Unless he feels the Flyers have a good shot at going deep this year, I'd ride it out. But, like I was saying, I'm not Holmgren (thank goodness for all concerned). Cheers.

Doesn't matter what comes back to the sharks, if Clowe says "no", then it's no. If all MTL offers is a second round and Kristo, and Clowe wants to come to MTL, then tough Saperlipopette for SJ. The Iginla trade is a perfect example. Anybody remember Heatley and Ottawa?

Looks that way christrpn. jkr and I are discussing it in the 'trade deadline' thread.

TSN boys expected it. All the talk is Philly is the front runner.

McKenzie tweeting that likely spots are Van, NYR or Philly. He added a caveat - "if he gets traded".

Latest from MacKenzie is the Rangers appear to be front runners. Looks like deal is 2nd, 3rd, and conditional 2nd if he signs with the Rangers.

they were mocking the deal on Sens radio -- why would you pay for a guy who hasn't scored -- and why would anyone go to the Rangers, the graveyard of the NHL?

I guess Clowe isnt washed up afterall ... who'd a thunk it? Bob MacKenzie last night cited the same reasons I put forth as to why the huge interest in Clowe and why it is not much of an overpayment, you would have thought he read my post ... Clowe has averaged 21 goals and 54 points over the last four years. His 11 points are not far off that point pace and SJ is not a fun place to play with all the locker room turmoil being reported. I fear how much we will wish we had a Clowe when the playoff grind starts ... and if we play the Rangers. Now wouldnt that just beat all if he is the catalyst to eliminating the Habs ...

Didn't BC post yesterday that Clowe didn't want to play in Montreal? If the guy has a NTC & chooses where to play, there isn't much you can do.

Didn't BC post yesterday that Clowe didn't want to play in Montreal? If the guy has a NTC & chooses where to play, there isn't much you can do. BC speculated that to be the case ... I listened to a radio interview yesterday. Clowe said that NYR would have been ONE team that he would have had interest in playing after July 1. I still think he didn't say no to Montreal, but Bergevin thought the price too high. Maybe I am wrong. But even if he did say no to Montreal. My point, is not that we should have pressed harder to get him, but that many felt the price was too steep cause he was washed up and won't return to the player he was in San Jose ... ... it's only one game, and time will tell, but I think NYR made a major improved to the loss of Prust yesterday. Many have felt that the reason for NYR's slide was losing players like Prust.

IMO a 2nd & a 3rd isn't that much for a guy with his history, especially if you can spead the picks over a couple of years. This year just seemed to be an anomaly & what he needed was a change.

sounds like my hockey-watching days may as well be done for the season . . . NYR have been anointed Cup winners with their pick-up of Clowe. after all, he led them to a win last night . . . and it's all about one game. so Pittsburgh is out of it because they lost two games with Iggy?
I'm not saying that the Habs shouldn't have made a move, but I'm also not enamored with moves made at an artificial deadline that is over-hyped by a Canadian sports media desperate to fill in TV time.
oh, and we lost to the Flyers -- a team I expected to lose to, but who we will not meet in the playoffs.

No one is annoiting anyone ... some commented that he had no goals, some commented that he'd never return to his San Jose statistical levels, some said he wasn't worth the asking price ... I'm just saying, he was worth it (IMO of course), and NYR are going to be better for it. Don't worry, I'll keep tabs on how our second rounder, third rounder and next year's second rounder do ... ;D

oh, and we lost to the Flyers -- a team I expected to lose to, but who we will not meet in the playoffs. Why do you expect to lose to the Fleas? And what would it take to stop that thinking? That's why some of us are pissed off. We want that thinking to be erased and we expect the GM to do something about it. When will the excuses stop?
