MacKenzie's saying through twitter that he spoke with various western GMs after deal. Said Morrow still has gas in tank. Can be good top 9 player still. Pitt will be a real shot in the arm for him.

God, Nieuwendyk/Gainey are terrible traders. Can't we shuffle Weber to them for Jamie Benn? I'd even throw in a 4th rounder.

Morrow for Morrow??? Guess this means Pitt out of Iginla chase One of the rumours out there has Boston interested in Iginla. TSN had it in one of their daily trade rumour updates I think. That would suck huge if went to Boston. Cheers.

I can't believe Dallas had to throw in a 3rd, but I know very little about this Joe Morrow, D.

Little choked about this. Big Morrow fan, hate to see him in Pittsburgh. Id hate Iginla in Boston too. I wonder if we are looking to make a move?

Dallas fans on HF seem rather excited. Morrow is a PMD type who's apparently decent defensively.

Curious to see what MB will do if anything...clearly Pitt and Boston are on the cusp....would hate to see Iggy go to Boston. Can MB pull off a major hockey trade rather than another rental?

Apparently the offer from Boston was center prospect Alex Khoklachev and a second.
Pens fans are largely unhappy. Feel they overpaid. Also, they feel it upped the asking price for Iggy. Jarome will be a kings ransom - imagine this years first and two seconds ++. Or, first and second this year and prospect(s).

That's the deal I would have chosen but obviously I haven't seen J Morrow play. His development curve is a bit slow, but what do I know?

Can MB pull off a major hocktey trade rather than another rental? I hope so. But MB is on record as not believing in rentals in any case.

I'm just quite surprised that Dallas had to throw in a pick, and a third at that.

Read some internet rumors that MB was intereted in Morrow. Wonder if he was in on this? Rental in the strictest sense I suppose, but it is a hockey trade more I think. Bergevin was making a deal for cap space, and got a pick out of it to boot.

Morrow makes the Pens number 1 in the east.
Why exactly does it make any sense to be on top of the standings if we land up on the bottom in the draft. We either contend or don't bother.

We'll see what Morrow does for them. While MacKenzie reported GMs feel he has gas in the tank, fans feel differently. They feel a guy who wasn't all that fast to begin with has lost whatever speed he had. He's a smart player though. He should be able to play third line minutes and kill penalties for them with ease.

It might be a case of what BC suggested in that Bergevin may think we're just not there just yet. Still ... Morrow makes the Pens number 1 in the east. Seriously, when I first read that Morrow could be on his way to Pittsburgh, I thought about how much this might affect the rest of the conference. If the Penguins weren't serious contenders before, they certainly are now and it didn't cost them a roster player. Ticket sales, concession prices, keeping St Catherine's St in the 70's mode ... success=money ... money they'll quibble over during the next lockout. Cheers.

A lot of 1st place talk about a 3rd line player....crazy.

The Pens have a lot of good pieces in place. The one area I'd be concerned about if I was a Pens fan, is Fleury. The one year he controlled his fear, they won a cup. Other years he played more like the WJC goalie who broke under pressure. Neither Malkin or Crosby can make up for a weak Fleury.
Same thing with Boston. They're not as deep at Pittsburgh and rely extremely heavily on Chara for his 30 minutes a game. I can see some team trying the tactic used years ago against great d-men, simply firing the puck in Chara's zone, making him handle it a lot and work a lot and trying to wear him out. While I always thought Tim Thomas had a much larger inventory of horseshoes than he deserved (He guessed a lot and was right a lot), he still managed to play well in the playoffs. This year, the Bruins are untested in that department. Will Rask or Khubodin hold up? Will Chara go injury free? Some high risks in Boston.

A lot of 1st place talk about a 3rd line player....crazy. My thoughts, exactly. Morrow will add some sandpaper and veteran leadership but his play has regressed a lot the past two years to the point where he's mo longer a factor on the ice (now that I said that, look for him to score a few big goals en route for the cup... )

Like to see Habs add a top player. I think they have a shot at a cup. This year team on a roll, nobody predicted this back at start of season. A lot of intangibles when right this year which probably won't happen for a few years. Core players having good years, shelf life on Therrein, Markov is healthy, Boston has terrible schedule, Ottawa is banged up. Don't get those all in one's favour very often.
