The brothers had, reportedly, a lot of weaponry...at least one other pressure-cooker bomb, some grenades, etc. Older brother, again reportedly, was wearing an explosive vest.
But really no escape plan....nobody waiting to take them away....the brother holes up in a boat on a trailer?
Bizarre....but, if true, they were obviously acting alone (albeit on cultish instructions by the sounds of it) and hung out to dry.
Hopefully, younger brother (only 19) snaps out of the delusion and talks big-time.

I heard about the vest yesterday. I also heard the older brother's death was the result of being run over by the younger, but who knows for sure really.
One of the networks interviewed some students/classmates/wrestling teammates of the younger brother. Said he was a great teammate and leader. Captain of the team.
Hopefully they're able to get the kid to open up.

and the mother interviewed: "not my son . . . it was the FBI who have been tracking him and planting evidence".
love to know the truth; doubt if we ever will.

Never will know the whole story.
So, the whole family came to the US? I thought it was just the brothers.

sounds like the younger guy was here since he was 8; thought it was just a year or two.
older brother went back "home" last year . . . came back with a chip on his shoulder [and schematics in his backpack].

If the article I posted earlier in the thread is true, it's not difficult to see where that "chip" came from. Their uncle says, "Somebody radicalized them.." Uncle

Whew! Lockdown over. It was surreal around here yesterday. Like a ghost town, but I got to hand it to law enforcement. They were all over this situation. When it first happened, I didn't know if they would catch these guys. The marathon was so packed with people, but the combination of surveillance video, tips, and an account from one guy who saw one of them drop his bag just before the bombs went off. That they resolved it so quickly and so aggressively may deter other bad people from thinking they can get away with this stuff.
As for motivation? Just can't say yet. My sense is politics plays a marginal role, but somehow the older brother became angry, frustrated, then radicalized and then moved to violence. The younger brother is a bit more of a mystery, seemingly better integrated into US life, with friends, and a scholarship to UMass.

Glad things are safe BH.
I'd heard that the older brother had dropped out of engineering, and taken a year off. At that point it hadn't been mentioned that he went back to Chechnya. It'll be interesting to see if they can pinpoint whether he was lured back, or if he went back of his own free will and then got 'radicalized'.

For two university educated people, they sure were dumb. Nobody knew who they were for two days. It wasn't until that young guy woke up from surgery after losing his legs, did they even have a clue as to who to look for.
You can get awful far on this Earth with a two day head start. Maybe even back to Chechneya where some seem to believe this is a conspiracy. Definitely could have made it to any number of countries with non-extradition policies.
But stay in Boston???

I heard about the vest yesterday. I also heard the older brother's death was the result of being run over by the younger, but who knows for sure really. I heard this too and may son read a different version today. Apparently two officers had the older brother pinned. The younger one sped towards them in the car. The officers dove out of the way & he ran over his brother. Who knows.

3 Friends of Younger Brother Accused of Cover-upTwo of them from Kazakhstan. The other from Cambridge, Mass. Figured it was their friend who was involved as he'd told them earlier he knew how to make a bomb....so the two Kazakhs went to his dorm room and tossed evidence, including a laptop and hollowed-out fireworks. Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, both of whom came to the U.S. from Kazakhstan, were charged with conspiring to obstruct justice by concealing and destroying evidence. Robel Phillipos, who graduated from a Cambridge, Mass., high school with Tsarnaev, was charged with lying to investigators about the visit to Tsarnaev's room.
