This is a shining example of what is so great about Bill Maher. He picks on both sides of the aisle whenever it's warranted. The right seem to think he's a liberal, but he isn't. He's a libertarian.

This is a shining example of what is so great about Bill Maher. He picks on both sides of the aisle whenever it's warranted. The right seem to think he's a liberal, but he isn't. He's a libertarian. No he's not. A libertarian stands for limited, small government and personal responsibility. Gun rights are part and parcel of that. Not gun CONTROL. He's a huge supporter of obamicare and taxing the rich into oblivion. He's also critical about people religion. Libertarians do not interfere or criticize others beliefs as long don't interfere with their space. Live and let live. He's a HUGE SUPPORTER of big brother control and taxes on global warming, err, climate change, err, climate confusion, err, sky falling. Privacy is the only issue that he's superficially libertarian about. Lets not pervert libertarianism into the left or right causes du jour. There is a rush by both sides to spit out whacky spin on how libertarianism fits their cause. Or how one issue makes one a libertarian. I'm an atheist libertarian, economic conservative.

I've heard Maher say he was Libertarian, or at least thought I did at some point. Certainly nothing to say a member of that party can't support something other members may not.
I think his comments above contradict your feeling that he's a big supporter of big brother control.

Bill maher is a brilliant comedian who forgot his role is to be funny, not perch himself as the apologist for the Democrats. Dennis Miller is likewise brilliant but still funny and fair. Thr US is very different from Canada. A weekend in Plattsburgh or week in Florida is not enough to demonstrate the differences. When I lived in Canada, I too laughed at the American preoccupation with guns. Now that I have lived here, I too want to exercise my rights and own a gun, several guns. I don't hunt, but occasionally do go to the range for some target practice. I don't go overboard, but I feel safer knowing that there is a gun in the house to protect my wife and kids. I live in a safe district but occasionally there is a breakin in the neighborhood. Background checks are ineffective. A year of psychiatric examinations might discover a dangerous unbalanced individual, but a paper application check of 100,000,000 applications per year would be prohibitively expensive and turn up nothing. Criminals use untraceable illegally obtained firearms. Honest citizens have guns registered with the sheriffs department with hammer patterns on the casings and barrel markings on the bullets recorded. No self respecting criminal would ever use a gun that can be traced. I will never NEVER go and shoot children in a school or shoot a fireman responding to a fire. To have my liberty taken away because some crazy individual might go postal is wrong. It is wrong for the honest citizens to be restricted while the criminals are released from overcrowded prisons and armed. It is also wrong to punish citizens who have done nothing wrong because they might commit a crime sometime in the future. When the Rodney King riots took place the police were unable to protect the citizens. When the Kings won the Stanley Cup, the police were unable to restore order in a timely fashion. The police take five minutes to respond whereas my gun is ready in seconds. I'm not talking about vigilante patrols on the street, I am just protecting the home. A gun supplements the police the way a fire extinguisher supplements a fireman. We are not crazy gun toting beer drinking hangem high nuts. We just keep an insurance policy.

I think his comments above contradict your feeling that he's a big supporter of big brother control. What he may claim and what he is are two different things. I'm an atheist but as a libertarian, I can not go around and spit on peoples religion. A fundamental tenant of libertarianism is live and let live. He spits on religious people. Same thing on property rights, guns, etc. About the only thing that he can claim common ground with libertarian is privacy. The left redefined liberalism and now they want to redefine the growing trend to libertarianism. It's part and parcel of isolating any ism that threatens their meme. Hilariously, they claim that if you are against guns, you are a libertarian because live and let live means that there are no guns in society. Uber bullcrap. Same thing for a lot of other issues. The left simply does not want to lose the centre to libertarians and are desperate to redefine it as "you are one of us because we tell you that you believe in the same thing and you just don't know it otherwise you are an uneducated red neck conservative ". NewSpeak....Department of Freedom will send around troopers and educators to make sure you don't use too much carbon. Gee..very libertarian of them. Thanks.

So far CISPA has staled in the States. Meanwhile, obami, the darling of the left and slow ones has backdoored that bill by allowing companies to spy on a lot more citizens with legal impunity. As usual, the left bends over because it's one of their own. If it was a Republican, then there would be no end to their whimpering. www.technewsdaily.com/17873-obama-phone-companies-spying.htmlJust for the record, I despised Bush'league Patriot Act.which obamI just piled more on top.

Cel phones for the homeless. Solindra. Fisker and Volt. Keystone. Benghazi coverup. World apology tour. Obamacare costs, administration and lies. Budget out of control. War in Afganistan. Restrictions on oil drilling. Gun control. Tax increases. Immigration reform. Closing Guantanimo? Border security. Preacher scandals. Questionable staffer appointments and resignations. Unlimited drone strikes. Invasion of privacy. Amnesty. The press gives more teflon on Barak than anyone including Ronald Reagan. At this point I think Rejean Houle would make a better president with Bob Gainey as his VP.

Maher called the shutting down of Boston......actions of a police state. Kind of agree on this. One injured whacko was worth shutting down a city?
Not that it's the first time. JustWatchMe brought out the army, but at least the threat was much larger.
Wonder if Maher wants his million back?
