In a deal similar to the Stars trading for Gonchar, the Flyers have made a deal with the Islanders for Streit. www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=425295Prospect Shane Harper and a guaranteed 4th rounder this year go the other way.

Buyouts will be coming in Philadelphia...Bryzgalov and Briere most likely.

Mark Streit would have done well in Montreal as a replacement for Markov. I'm not rumour-mongering, it's just my opinion. I just think Markov re-injured himself somewhere down the stretch. His game steadily deteriorated after the 20-game mark, or so it seemed to me. If nothing else he would have probably provided us with a little more stability until Emelin came back. Don't know who Shane Harper is. A Tory? A Senator hiding from his debts in the AHL? No, Shane Harper is tearing up the ECHL. He and a 4th for Streit. It's cheap. I think Holmgren did well landing a veteran defenceman. Cheers.

The price for him was certainly higher than Gonchar (who went for a conditional 6th). Never know what you might find with a 4th this year. Harper is a body.

For Pronger I believe that his salary doesn't count towards the cap since he's on the long-time injury list. But regardless, the Flyers will be up to the cap and will have to buy out Brière, Bryzgalov or probably both.

Done deal, Flyers sign him. 4 years, $21 million. A lot of cash for a 35 year old rover.

Yeah, that's my thinking exactly. I like Streit's skating and his offensive vision, but he can be a disaster in his own end. $5.2 Mill a year for a 36 year old? Ok, who thought Holmgren was once a good GM? I wonder if Streit can play goal?
