Big trade today:
The Bruins traded Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button to the Stars in exchange for Loui Eriksson, Joe Morrow, Reilly Smith, and Matt Fraser.
It's on TSN.ca

I don't know much about the prospects Dallas are giving away but it seems at first glance that Boston is winning this trade. Eriksson is a young proven 70+ pts player with size and skills while Seguin has yet to convince he can be a dominant offensive force in the NHL. If anything, he ends up producing at around the same level as Eriksson but costs mch more. Chiarelli always seems to come on top when he decides to pull the trigger on a trade...

I can't help but feel that Boston could have gotten more for Seguin. Either way, I think they win this deal despite giving up the most valuable player in the swap.

I wouldn't necessarily sell Eriksson short. He flies under the radar playing in Dallas. He's a very good player, with good size. Not the dangler that Seguin is. Peverly is a salary dump. Moving him clears nearly $3.5 million in cap space. I know nothing about the prospects exchanged.

Seguin is only 21 so it's way too early to give up on him. Instead of bridging his contract they gave him too much money too soon & have to deal him. I think the Bruins end up regretting this move.

I don't get this move at all ... Seguin had decent numbers, Boston had dumped enough salary. I think Boston is going to find out awful fast that playing on the first line with Brad Richards inflates you stats, way moreso than a 21 yr old playing on the third line.

Seguin has trouble making the players around him better and there are some character issues as well. If Dallas can square him around and improve his play with his teammates, they will do well.
Ericksson's a very good player, but thats to be expected if it's a trade involving Seguin. Morrow is a decent prospect. Not sure if he's A list or not. The other two prospects are chancier. Fraser probably won't make it and the one Boston gave up won't make it either. Reilly Smith is a maybe. Could be a good scorer, but not heavy at 157 lbs as per Hockeydb, at a sis foot height.
Peverley is a hell of a good third liner though. I'd love him on the Habs. He's excellent on faceoffs, has a good hockey IQ and scores the occasional important goal. Good player and penalty killer.

Who would you say won trade? As usual when prospects are involved, it depends on how they turn out. Let's assume they all bomb except for Joe Morrow. If he turns into a #4 d-man, then the deal will really revolve around how Seguin matures. If he stays at at 20 goal, 25 assist type of guy, the Boston will probably have done better. If, however, he starts to consistently break 80 points which you'd expect from an offensive 2nd overall choice, then Dallas will win the deal. Seguin is also much younger than Eriksson. Loui's a good player, though, quite underrated IMO. But I can't see him scoring more than 35 goals a season again. Was that the year that Ribs was his center?

All I know is that Loui Eriksson is now in the division. The Bruins got better. They moved a major attitude out of the Boston in Seguin. They bring in one of Dallas' top goal scorers in recent years. Whatever!
Cheers.
