Per Friedman. Apparently, Yzerman prepared to offer up a draft pick in trade sooner than do a buyout.

Offer DD for Malone and 5th rounder? We need a little size, Briere makes DD expendable

Don't know. He's 33 & his cap hit looks like 4.5 for 2 more years. I may be wrong but he seems to have a lot of miles in him.

He's marginally less productive than Jagr has been the last few years. This year was a real drop off in points, and he only played half the season. My concern would be his health. If he's capable, he brings a lot more physicality than JJ and he's 8 years younger.

Malone is a predator. Not sure we have enough gas to kill off his stupid penalties.

Malone is a predator. Not sure we have enough gas to kill off his stupid penalties. That's the trade off. Getting meaner and harder to play against means more penalties.

But more space for everyone else, too. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer (no pun intended) on him if his health is ok. More jam than JJ, and we do want to get bigger and nastier, no?

I'd take Malone for DD. That alone makes us tougher by a considerable margin.
If we sign Jagr and IF we get Malone, that will make the team considerably bigger. Had we added the Prince, I think that "hard to play against" would be a good description. Although I would not be able to shake the feeling that it would be a mishmash of player who would ALL be gone in a few years.
Notice I didn't add Parros anywhere in there.

Parros is definitely NOT the predator you want, White is not the tough guy that demolishes his opponents, but parros is one tough ombre and White is the predator we need. With Parros in the line-up. most likely on the same line as White, White can be much more physical and not have to worry about the likes of lucic or thornton or chara or scott. For the record, I really like White, he does make us that much more difficult to play against.

What I want from an ubergoon is what I remember Fergy doing (or perhaps dreamed he did). The idea is to go after anyone, I mean ANYONE who played dirty against our guys. Going back to when McDonough hit Patches. Is should of been our ubergoon cornering McDonough and laying a beating on him. A bloody nose or a black eye is a good reminder for future reference. Having our goon go fight their goon for an action that a third party did is zero deterrence. That is what I see their role to be and if they can use their heads to play a tough game, not dirty, simply tough. checking 5-7 minutes then it's a bonus. I don't think we are going to like seeing Parros and White go around and create a mess then have the balance of the team involved in a nasty game. We simply don't have enough guns to fight that battle. Prust is the perfect version of what I'm talking about BUT he's not big enough and mean enough to do this. Neal too. If Prust was in the heavyweight range, he would be worth gold. Parros does have the size and the ability, but from what I have seen of him from the past, he lands up taking "dancing" invitations. Mehh...this is a continuation of the Parros discussion rather then Malone.

I haven't seen him fight to defend anyone other than himself(Emelin) and the guy isn't even fighting tough, just really solid on his skates. I didn't see him go after Staubitz the next game. Granted I didn't see Staubitz go after him either. As for White, he is not that tough guy he thinks he is, but he has never hesitated to knock someone's face in when they took a run at his teammate(Boychuck, Fleishmann). Maybe getting a guy like Parros will help, even if it is just to take Orr out, while Prust and White handle Kadri

Sure why not...then again i'm at the stage where i basically give away DD for anything and just go out and either sign a veteran UFA (ie. Jagr) or trade for one with 2 years or less left on his deal (ie. Malone). Pacioretty-Plekanec-Gallagher Galchenyuk-Briere-Bourque Malone-Eller-Gionta Prust-White-Moen/Parros
