Vanek's a good player, but that's an awful lot to give up for him. Good deal for the Sabres. Vanek's a pending UFA. The Sabres get a 1st this year and a 2nd next in addition to Moulson.

Good deal for the Sabres. Vanek is this generations Richer. Has a good year every other year, capable of so much more, always leaves you wanting.

I always thought Moulson was a solid player...goes into the dirty areas, too. Certainly played extremely well against the Habs. Now he's in our division. He must've fallen out of favour in Long Island...when you consider the two draft picks as well. 6'1"...205....9 pts. in 11 games...which would tie him with Pleks for top scoring forward on our team I wonder if MB was involved...and who the Isles would've wanted from us. Sabres did well, I think. Pick up a character guy....hard worker and crafty around the net.

Moulson has more goals than Vanek over the last four years, for less than half the price. AND, they get two solid picks. Both players are UFA at seasons end.
There's apparently a lot of people calling for Regier's head but I like this deal. Who knows if Moulson would consider re-signing, but you know Vanek is walking at the end of the year. I assume Moulson slides in to play with Hodgson and Stafford. Moulson may not want to play through another rebuild, but if the Sabres have any designs on keeping Miller around it just got easier. Moulson won't command $7 million per like Vanek is making. Considering how quickly teams can move up, and down, the standings, it might not be a long wait. There are some nice pieces in Buffalo.

At first glance, this seems a very good deal for Buffalo, but if the Islanders do well, the draft choices may not be that good. The really big question to me, is how much of Moulson's success is because he's playing with Tavares? He's had really good chemistry with JT, who is truly a superstar IMO. Travis Moen might get a bunch, playing with Tavares.

Tavares and Moulson have known and played with each other since their youth in Mississauga. Their chemistry is undeniable and that's a great point 17. Still good asset management on the Sabres part imo. I just hope Miller gets traded now, have him in one of my pools riding the pine.

With Moulson a UFA at the end of the season, you have to figure that he will opt to test the market rather than staying with the rebuilding Sabres. That means Moulson could be a deadline deal too with the Sabres accumulating more for him then. Good asset management by the Sabres, as they at least get a legitimate top six guy for the bulk of the season plus two high picks in the next two drafts.
The Isles are gambling that the Tavares opportunity can convince Vanek to sign in Long Island, but it is a gamble for sure. Vanek could be moving again at the deadline if talks go nowhere with the Isles.
Interesting trade.

The Sabres get two good picks plus whatever they can convince someone to overpay for Moulson at the trade deadline for a player that wasn't going to stick around after this season (and probably wouldn't have commaanded significantly more than Moulson at the trade deadline if the Sabres held on to him until then).

He is young, tough, cheap (relative term in this world) and a sniper. Does he kelp Tavares or vice versa? Probably both given the history and chemistry. I wouldn't be surprised to see Moulson back in the Island next year. It's a win for Buffalo.

I just can't believe the Islanders made another bad business decision. Moving Moulson with a 1st and a 2nd is just terrible.
Bergevin should be asking about the availability of John Traveres.
Terribly run franchise, IMHO.
Cheers.

Moulson with two snipes in his first game with the Sabres. One from the slot off the rush, and the other a great display of his hands in tight.
Not bad for a 9th round selection by the Pens in 2003. I think he'd fit great with either Eller or Galchenyuk. The Isles have had some weak teams defensively, but he's never been worse than a -10. His points per game have gone up steadily each year. He'll be 30 on Friday.
Imagine:
*-Eller-Pacioretty Moulson-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Sign me up.

TSN says Moulson and Miller are on the block, the Sabres will be looking for a first or the same type package that Clowe went for last year

The 1st also has a condition. If it is a top-10 pick then the Isles can defer it to 2015.

This is one of those deals I just don't get...
Unless they seriously think they can sign Vanek ? It's the only way they can get their money's worth...
