Link here: www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=436181A team that needs D men trades Smid to their biggest rival so that they can sign this headcase Bryzgalov - as if he is the answer for anyone's goaltending problems.

I guess we'll see if this turns out, but it does not seem to be a good move. It's not just their goalie and dmen, it's team defense as a whole unit.
Just imagine if Bryz gets lit up in his first start. Everyone questioning this in the media is going to pounce.

Goaltending is a bigger issue for Edmonton, who really needs saves. With that said, I don't think Bryzgalov is even good enough for a stop-gap measure.

Dubnyk has had a terrible year. A lot of soft goals. The Smid trade really surprises me. He's a defensive dman with a physical element to his game. The Oilers don't exactly have a lot of that to spare.

Puzzling, for sure, blny, but it seems to be a salary dump. They must feel the need to open some cap space, so they may pull off something bigger, later.

It was a salary dump which they needed to sign Bryz. That's the puzzling part. Bryzgalov is a twit and not a good goalie. Just how expensive could he be? And if he's asking more than $1MM, he can rot. McTavish is showing a lot of rookie characteristics.

Word is the deal was for $1.75 million for one year.
