Sending Liles and a prospect dman to Carolina for Gleason.
Gleason is a tough stay-at-home dman, 3 years younger than Liles. 30 years old.
Liles isn't going to make Carolina any better.....what is Rutherford doing?
Gleason will lay on the body, that's for sure.....
Wonder if Bergevin was in on this discussion in any way.

Good deal for TO. Gleason is exactly what we needed. Their two contracts are very similar, so that prospect better be a good one.
EDIT: He's not a good one. A US college defenseman from one of the poorer college leagues. Plays with Brown University. Isn't that the same league (the ECAC) with Cornell? Louis LEblanc's league.
So what exactly did Nonis get Rutherford to ingest before making that deal? How come some GM's are so totally out of it when dealign with other GM's and don't deal with ours? Diaz and one of our prospects would have made it work, talent wise, but perhaps not CAP wise.

Apparently this deal was in the works for about a month so it didn't just happen today.
If Gleason is such a hot property why couldn't he play for Carolina? Even Komisarek is ahead of him.

A good trade for Toronto. From what I've heard on their media, any experienced d-men are very welcome there. There isn't much faith in the present blue line corps.
Cheers.

The Hurricanes are also a team not deep in defense so Gleason must have fallen off a lot in the past couple of years not to mention a 4 million dollar contract for 2 more years. Would be an expensive pick up if he is a 5-6th defenseman.

I'll have to verify, but the last I remember reading, Gleason's play has been rapidly declining. Most likely injuries just taking their toll.

Could be. I haven't seen him this year. Sure liked him last year, though.

Listening to the radio this morning here in Toronto, Tripp Tracy (Carolina hockey analyst) was on saying Gleason's confidence has taken a real hit in recent years but feels a change will do him good. I don't know. Heading to the so called center of the hockey universe and under the loving/caring hands of a real players coach like Carlyle isnt't exactly a breedng ground for finding your confidence...

Didn't he get a concussion from Tinordi in the pre-season? Injuries might be the reason he wasn't playing. Maybe he wasn't happy with Muller or the direction the team was heading in. We would know nothing because the city of Raleigh doesn't even remember there is an NHL franchise there

I think he did, Chris.
I always liked Gleason. I saw him play Boston a year or two ago and came away really impressed by how fearless he was. He even fought Lucic and did quite well. He was a warrior with a pretty good hockey IQ to boot. Sure hope the Leafs aren't getting that version of Gleason.
