A thread apart from the regular rumours, etc....in which to post/discuss the deadline deals.
So many names out there...a team like Buffalo with the door wide open. "Make us an offer...."
Should be very interesting, with several teams in the legit Cup mix this year.

Bergevin thinks you build from the draft, but getting good return on assets is another way to build.

Rumor has it that stewart and Halak will be dealt at the deadline..again. they seem to be dealing for picks and prospects. Looking for a complete rebuild. That third rounder turns into a 1st this year if they sign miller or make it to conference finals. Big return in my opinion. This is why I am sure that our best option for guys like markov, Moen and Gionta are trade. They might bring back big returns

Can't remember a deadline with this many big names rumored to be moving. Miller already gone...Kesler, Myers, St.Louis, Vanek, Markov, Brodeur. That's just among the top players.

The Miller deal looks just like the Roy deal for me. Top #1 Goalie, Checking Fwd Captain for lesser components. Hopefully for us this makes the Sabres a good wipping boy for the next 5-10 years.

They've already got some really good prospects (Grigorenko and Compher at C, Pysyk, Ristolainen, McCabe, McNabb and Zadorov on D, and Girgensons who's graduated). They should have high picks of their own the next 2 drafts. Add in what they're adding via sell off, and they're going to be stacked. I don't think their fans will be waiting as long as Oilers fans have been. That core of young defenders looks really good. They're all at least 6'1. Zadorov is a beast and has an absolute rocket from the point. They've got promising centers. There's depth in goal, but Hackett has apparently taken a step backwards with the Amerks this year. I suspect they've got their eyes on Ekblad if they land the #1 pick. He only improves their stock pile of quality defenders. Adding goals from the wing would appear to be a necessity.

Heard Brodeur has officially waived his NTC, probably meaning he will be moved. I hear Minnesota are front-runners. Runner upo will get Halak probably(Caps). I hear Montreal is inquiring about Stafford AND Steward in Buffalo, but I'm not holding my breath.
Whoever broke that there were talks between MB and the Oilers about Markov officially lost all credibility. Markov has Oilers on his no trade list. Although thast doesn't stop Oilers from making an offer, the talks were not both ways. Mb can make an offer to Pittsburgh for Crosby, doesn't mean they're "talking"

Moreover, Martin has said in waiving it he doesn't mind being the 'back up'.

Not a trade, but a signing. Hawks sign Bollig to 3 year extension. $1.25 million cap hit.
Callahan sent offer to Rangers that was rejected. Believed to be 6 years and just under $6.5 million per season. Rangers appear to be unwilling to budge from $6 million - which is still to much for Callahan imo.

Waiver news from today: Kobasew (PIT), McLaren (TOR), Larsen (EDM), Dubnyk (NSH). McLaren is top 5-6 in fighters. With Parros on his retirement contract, there is no need.

McKenzie reporting that Ottawa brass met with Conacher and Corvo this morning. He thinks both are bound for waivers. And to think Conacher was the return for Bishop. Whoops.

Doesn't make much sense. I am sure they have some trade value. Plus its not like Ottawa is up against the cap.

What it shows is an example of two possible situations. Firstly, some guys can play really well for a particular coach and not so well for others (Lafleur/Bowman vs Lafleur/bob Berry). Secondly, you can be a hot rookie and then everyone figures you out. Conacher has not played well in a while and he has now cleared waivers, so that tells you how valuable he is.

Put this in rumor thread by accident:
Weekes reporting that Ducks send Penner to Capitals for a 4th rounder
TFP saying Ducks send Fasth to Oilers. Scrivens signed for 2 years, and Fasth now for a 5th this year and a 3rd next.
Wild: Bryzgalov Oilers: 4th rounder

Looks like the 4th rounder the Ducks got for Penner is what went to Dallas for Robidas, which is why it took some time to announce.

Robidas is going to Anaheim, though not official yet. So much for sending markov there. For a 4th round pick. Cheap insurance, but does it improve them at all?

Flyers acquire Andrew MacDonald from Islanders. 2014 3rd rounder and 2015 second rounder. Really? He's 6'1 and 190lbs. Produces a marginal amount offensively and is a terrible -19. He's 26. Flyers now have 9 defenders, Meszaros likely to move out.
Boyes agrees to two year extension with Panthers. $2.65 million cap hit.

Poor/rich Roberto.
Likely glad to be out of whatever nightmare he thought he was in.
I wonder if Torts passing him by for the Heritage Classic was the final straw....or an indicator that a trade was in the works.

Whatever it was CH, Gillis really made a mess of this team. Last year he had Schneider and Luongo, and now he has Lack and Markstrom.
Is Bo Horvat, Shawn Matthias and Markstrom really worth TWO #1 goalies?

TSN saying that Canucks also eat 800k per year for the next 4 years. Pretty brutal goalie saga for last 2 years.

I agree, Skilly. Vancouver's 2011 Finals edition's window has basically closed.
Lots of talk of Kesler on the deadline block.
Who's next? The Sedins?
