In each case, political direction for the Citizen wasn't based on research, debate or critical thought ... politics was determined on who owned the paper ... and the Citizen sells a lot of newspapers ... 900,000, plus (2008) ... they ship across Canada ... isn't that just life, though, Dis? if not directed by the owner, then by an editorial board; if not by the editorial board, the articles come out slanted by the writer's point of view. it's natural -- is it possible to have an unbiased viewpoint [present company excluded?]? Well, sure, to varying degrees I guess ... but I can't just waive it off ... I have a big problem with the process ... a form of censorship? Cheers.

Looking at the negative side of this ledger....
We can get into the undulating, subjective nature of personal/business ethics and morality, of which bias is a main indicator. Bias can also eschew knowledge and encourage ignorance.
In the power game, it's amazing what will be rationalized to build and protect/maintain that power.
As franko says, it's natural....the human condition. Self-preservation taken to various levels.

I just find "it's a part of life" to be too dismissive and too apathetic ... it's akin to "what are you going to do" and then just tow the line ... no point talking about it because we're not going to change anything ... George Carlen's Illuminati Speech (strong language). He knew it was part of life, but he also made a difference in bringing it to the surface by doing something:

As franko says, it's natural....the human condition. Self-preservation taken to various levels. I don't see bias ledgers as right and wrong, good or evil. I see ledgers simply as containers to separate biases. I could of used the term "balance" but that would imply giving weight to a bias, which then would pre-judge a bias on moral/ethical/self-interest and rob the process of any neutrality. What I'm trying to convey with the word ledger is to recognize and mentally "write it down", essentially forcing the separation of biases. EDIT: Okay.....to add to your other points.... I believe we all develop bias, it's part of how we rationalize and identify our tribalism. It's to what extend we consciously or unconsciously accommodate it and recognize it that is important.

30 days in rehab ain't gonna cure this dude....let alone make him fit to be mayor of any city, let alone the biggest city in Canada. I'm betting Doug Ford throws his hat in the mayoral ring. What a circus. Come on voters....enough of blind partisan politics. National PostLow-lights... However, the confirmation that Ford is indeed seeking help for substance abuse was eclipsed by a new audio tape acquired by The Toronto Star of the mayor caught in a racist rant and bragging about having sex with “girls” in front of his wife.
Ford reportedly also offered guests a chance to have sex with his wife, Renata.
According to reporter Kevin Donovan, the mayor was reportedly driving drunk with high school friend Bruno Bellissimo in the passenger’s seat on the night of March 5, two days after he appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
“Nobody sticks up for people like I do, every f---ing k--e, n----r, f---ing w-p, d-go, whatever the race. Nobody does,” Ford said about Jews, blacks and Italians, according to the paper.
“I’m the most racist guy around. I’m the mayor of Toronto.”

[/i][/b][/quote] I guess he hasn't heard of Darwin ... don't want him as mayor of the centre of the Canadian universe ... I would like to see him resign and the media just let him go ... he and this whole story is a major embarrassment to Canada ... Cheers.

Yes....substance abuse doesn't turn you into a raging bigot, misogynist, and homophobe. It just makes it all much easier to spew. The social governor is turned off.
Even if he's completely clean and sober, he should be nowhere near the power of mayor.

He has to go, not just for the reputation of Toronto, but for his own well being. What an embarrassment. Cheers.

Ford has invoked the powerful religion button, too ("Come-to-Jesus moment", back in November during the Mansbridge interview)...his camp has also used the "cast the first stone" axiom. The man is as disingenuous as they come. Moral accountability is out the window with these guys. Every transgression is met with, "I'm only human....haven't you all had too much to drink?" (as all he admits to is a problem with alcohol.) ======================================================= What? The Ford brothers don't declare a business relationship with a company they're lobbying for? Really? The question should be, "Are there any politicians who don't have a conflict of interest?" Fords Lobby For Apollo Health & BeautyDeco Label & Tags does around $1 million/year with Apollo. Never did the Ford's disclose that Apollo was one of their clients. The email trail is right there. So much for "not wasting taxpayer's money". So much for "out for the little guy". The Ford strategy is all rhetoric and sound-bytes for a gullible electorate. Truly an insult to all members of their political stripe. It's time for fellow "conservatives" to speak out against them. Here's another account from the Globe and Mail.
