Were it not for Weaver having a rather atrocious 2nd and 3rd period Bergevin would have looked like a genius last night. Weise, Vanek, Briere, all key contributors. Almost looked like Bergevin knows what he is doing... not counting the Blue Suit Bergy Boogie of course (though I expect to see quite a few of those in the stands for Game 3).

Bishop isn't practicing, so I doubt he's even a consideration at this point. It will be Lindback or the Latvian secret weapon.

Loved the Habs' offensive effort but I wasn't enamoured with the play in our own end. Got to work on getting the puck out cleanly. The biggest issue I had with last night's game (other than the nerve-wracking way we won it) was the play in front of our net vs. the play in front of TB's net. We need to get Tinordi into the lineup to work over the TB forwards around our net the way our forwards are getting man-handled around the TB net. Keep the front of the net clear and Price looks like a Vezina winning goalie. Let TB keep it clogged up and we'll be watching a few more nail-biters.
Guys who stood out in my mind: Eller - he played up to his size and showed lots of confidence Gionta - he came to win, not just play Plekanec - the Habs' best all around player (at least for the first two periods) Gallagher - leads by example. Love his crash and bang Weise - score the OT winner and you're a star in my view Bourque - (don flame retardant jacket) I thought he played very well. Briere - this is what we got him for and even though he's seeing limited ice time he's performing Bournival - love the way he's always involved.
Guys who didn't stand out: The D
Edit: Doh, forgot Vanek. This guy is special, period!

* Couple of paraphrased quotes from Weise on his winner: "I knew I wasn't going to miss from there. I got down on one leg, the old Brett Hull, and I just ripped it." And followed up with "I'm not going to miss too many from there." He may need a bigger helmet for the next game! Maybe. I'm thinking Weise probably just isn't used to the spotlight. The problem might be Weaver and Bouillon playing together as a pair ... please tell me why Bouillon is playing again ... Cheers.

IMO, Eller's play has rebounded hugely since his return to center. He's simply lost on the wing. At center, he's engaged, uses his size, fore checks, hits, creates. It's night and day.

I'm a MASSIVE Price fan. I'm heavily involved in goaltending and goalie development. Carey is a model for all young goalies to look up to. BUT....
He wasn't great last night. For the first 60 minutes he went back to OVER committing to the shooter and was sliding waaaaay out of position far too often. To be honest, he looked EXACTLY like he did against Ottawa last year. I suspect, in part, that it was likely nerves - and that Waite finally got him to steady himself in OT because his movements were much more compact. From the get go I thought he looked uncomfortable.
My hope is that he remembers to keep it simple - because there were no less than 4 chances where our D bailed Price out when he was literally 5-6 feet out of position giving up a wide open net. Even my 12 year old goalie son commented how much Price was over committing. It's a bad habit to get into - and one that he's been able to keep in check all season long.
Carey will definitely be the key as the playoffs move along so last night, IMO, was his "free pass".

Bishop isn't practicing, so I doubt he's even a consideration at this point. It will be Lindback or the Latvian secret weapon. Bishop was skating in full equipment yesterday. Granted, he didn't take any shots and skating with a hurt elbow is no big deal, but still. He's keeping himself in game shape.

I was ready to hang the goat horns on Carey Price after 4 goals on 16 shots. He didn't make one big save all night until the OT.
Impressed with lots of guys already mentioned. Even Rene Bourque looked engaged! Prust was the only player who stood out to me as a liability. He made that mistake on the 3rd Tampa goal, but I thought Pleks and Gallagher both had great games and Prust was no help at all on that line.
Bouillon was excellent but I'm afraid he's going to wear down. Weaver will be fine, IMO.

He only really just started practicing with the team late last week. There's some rust to shake off.

* Eller, Bourque and Gionta hit the scoresheet and had some chances, It would be remiss of me not to point out that Gionta and Eller hit the scoresheet, not Bourque. Bourque just fanned a lot (in the scrum, at the puck). One thing he does well, is he has perfected the bounce off the left boards to clear the zone without icing the puck. He has a nice touch there. (See, I can be nice too).

pictures. it's gotta be the pictures . . . You mean this one? I think it's the selfies MT and Booboo took in the woods after the dance that could explain Booboo's TOI. And the fact MT can't get him off the ice as Booboo ices the puck each shift and is not allowed to change!

Great boost to the ego, for sure. But, those journalists will also be in his face if he were the goat. I'm really hoping he doesn't find that out. I imagine that would be quite humbling. Cheers.

DD really struggled in the faceoff circle last night. # | POS | Player | Off Zone | Def Zone | Neutral | Total | 14 | C | Pleky | 1/4 25%
| 2/7 29%
| 13/18 72%
| 16-29 / 55% | 48 | C | Briere | 1-3 / 33% | 3-3 / 100% | 2-5 / 40% | 6-11 / 55% | 51 | C | DD | 1-10 / 10% | 2-2 / 100% | 1-2 / 50% | 3-17 / 18% | 81 | C | Larry | 3-9 / 33% | 3-9 / 33% | 2-5 / 40% | 8-23 / 35% |
DD's lack of success in then offensive zone last night really impacted the whole line's chance to control the play in the Bolts end. The line was able to get control after the faceoff and enter the bolts zone easily imo. Not one centreman was better than 33% in the O zone. This is a problem that needs to be fixed. It's strange that the Briere and DD did better in the defensive zone than Pleky and larry.

He was hounding their d, creating turnovers, and chances that weren't just off the rush. He out muscled a couple of their d, including Brewer, as well.

Brewer was abysmal for Tampa. Never could stand the guy, can't believe he was an Olympian.
I had a feeling Weise was going to do something in OT, kept thinking about how well the 4th line played the whole game.

Fast, grinds, and has pretty quick hands (which he displayed in the game against chicago I believe). He's been a sound pick up that I'd have no qualms bringing back.

Bishop was also on the ice today....before team practice....in full gear....not taking any shots.
Also, Palat (upper body injury) did not practice. Rest/therapy day, most likely....but he's not 100% and that's good for us.

I don't care if Weise gets such a swelled head that he needs Dark Helmets helmet....or my 4xl motorcycle helmet.....as long as his confidence brings his play to the next level.
Last night, a series of flat footed plays got us in trouble. From playing the puck instead of the man to second rate clearing attempts, there was plenty to complain about....BUT...we won.
I have not seen enough of the Bolts, but their defenseman are not very good. Perhaps they had an off game, perhaps they are a bit better then what they showed, but they are not getting anywhere with that defensive corps. We exploited them, they will be a joke to the Western teams. Not that I care......because I think it's going to be a short series.

MT deserves credit for continuing to roll 4 lines in OT.
Besides the W, it also gives confidence to everyone. Noticed how happy Vanek was during the celebration. I know it's natural for a teammate to be celebratory after a big win like that, but perhaps relationships are being formed, and he'll want to stay.
Ray Ferraro on Melnick's show mentioned the 3 or 4 big stop Price made in OT as well.
Have you heard the call of the Tampa broadcast crew on Weise's winner? The most lacklustre call I've ever heard.
I have to go back to the 1969-70 season for another such call. Budd Lynch on the radio for the Wings. Chicago was already pasting Detroit, and here's how Lynch called the next goal.
(Very quickly, with a monotone flat delivery) Here comes Bobby Hull down the ice shoots he scores.
**BTW....Lynch went on to be the Wings' PA announcer til he died in 2012 at the age of 95.
