Kerry Fraser's TSN article was critical of Maclean and said as a ref himself Ron should know better. Here's a part of the article:
"Ron MacLean, as a referee himself, would certainly understand this type of logic. What Ron should have thought of before he embarked down a self-admitted "divisive" path is that whenever he pulls on his striped jersey, he's no longer from his hometown or even a star television host. In that moment, and in the performance of his duties, Ron is an impartial, unbiased referee that is empowered to place his integrity and that of the game on the line. He cares not what teams are playing or if they are from the town that he lives in. It matters not to Ron what colour their team jerseys are or the crest on the front. It is his duty as a "referee" to perform to the very best of his ability without prejudice or bias. I know that Ron MacLean performs those duties without question every time he pulls on that striped jersey."
Somewhat ironic that Fraser keeps talking about how fair Maclean should be when he puts his ref jersey. Seems to me the same applies if he is the face of HNIC on the national broadcast; he should be impartial in his broadcasting. And if he is not then he should declare his bias. At least Cherry declares. Can anyone think of a national broadcast in the NFL or NBA where the announcers actually root for or against a team. People wonder why everyone outside the Centre of the Universe resents their ignorant and arrogant perspective on our country which they have such little understanding of.
Remember when Harry Neal rooted for the Leafs over Ott and told the Sens fans to kiss his a$$. He didn't last long. Maclean isn't that stupid so he apologizes and gets away with it. Bottom line: if there was any ever a doubt, we now know Maclean's true colours and they ain't bleu, blanc et rouge.

This Mclean story made the national news last night.
According to the CBC poor Ron is misunderstood & won't be reprimanded. It's back to RDS for me.

I haven't wavered from RDS (when I can get a decent stream) since Milbury was part of the CBC family. The times I've suffered through a CBC broadcast I change channels during intermissions. I'm not giving them, or their advertisers, a minute of my time. I don't even give After 40 minutes time anymore.

The CBC should not have either English or French speaking announcers. To ensure fairness all announcers should be Cantonese speakers and broadcast in Mandarin. well, there are Punjabi broadcasts . . .

I watch the play-by-play on RDS, then switch to CBC for the intermissions. I want to hear/see firsthand the poison they spread re: Montreal.
I don't know if Sportsnet will be any better....but it can't be any worse.
Everything that comes out of their mouths is said with the subtext: Don't worry, Leafs Nation. We know you hate the Habs. We're your voice!

Frankly, the day you let someone say that it’s embarrassing for all of Canada to have a separatist bastard carry the flag (Jean-Luc Brassard at the Olympics), and that person gets to keep his job despite that comment, than really, it’s all I ever needed to know about CBC.
"Bigot's Corner" makes me sick. Haven’t watched HNIC nor CBC in ages and I don’t intend to.

Did anyone catch the CTV piece (from CTV Montreal) that TSN had on the website about Ginette Reno doing the anthem for game 3? The reporter claimed that it wasn't that long ago that the Canadian anthem was booed within the walls of the Bell Centre. I've NEVER heard our anthem booed in the Bell Centre. US anthem? Yes, from time to time, and it was a political statement against US foreign policy, not Americans in general. www.tsn.ca/VideoHub/Default.aspx?collection=71&show=349976§ion=Sports

I watch a lot of Habs games & I have never heard the Canadian anthem booed either. In fact people sing it at the Bell Centre. This is how rumors get started & bad feelings arise. Some lazy reporter spewing out misinformation.

You can bet if the Habs win the next series, it will be because of all the "planning" they had in scouting the Bruins/Red Wings series.

And if we lose they could say it was because we didn't use our time off properly ... Doesn't matter one way or the other ... All the more motivation to win the Cup, eh ... Stick it to CBC ... But, even given that I'd be prepared for CBC to focus more on why the other team lost rather than how the Habs won ... Great way to exit pro sports for CBC #made their own bad karmaIt's too bad, really. I had been watching CBC for the last while or so. I won't be now. Their last season in pro sports notwithstanding. Cheers.
