I don't know how connected Ron Fournier is, but he's claiming the Habs are shopping a forward who's 'reached the end of the road' with Montreal. Looking for D in return.

Maybe before signing Markov to a long-term deal, Bergevin wants to see if he couldn't get adequate value in return of Plekanec, instead.
Of course, it could be Moen for a 7th D, or a guy who's stagnated elsewhere (their version of Leblanc, but on D )

It's certainly open to interpretation.

Sounds like Markov is done here. Could be. Berg has a little under 3 weeks to execute a plan to replace him. If he can't do a trade, it's either bow to what Markov wants, or see if Boyle will take less term.

Assuming this is true (big assumption of course) it could be a shot across the bow of either Subban, Markov, Bouillon or Weaver. Any one of those guys could be "threatened" by the acquisition of another defensemen. All depends on the caliber coming back, of course. Could be anything from Ryan Suter to the return of the legendary Raphael Diaz.
Not sure I would put a lot of stock in this one.

There's a bit more to Fournier's findings. From a poster over at HF: (Bergevin) said (the deal) would be done before the draft. He also said that many teams were inquiring about Ryan White, that the Habs were through with Leblanc and that Gionta wouldn't be the captain next year. Cheers.

The only thing I buy out of that quote is that the Habs are done with Leblanc.
