www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=455502Jackets also throw in a 4th in 2015. Hartnell, 32, has 5 years left at $4.75 million per. Umberger, also 32, has 3 years left at $4.6 million. Homecoming for RJ. Similar production, but Scott is capable of more between the 2 imo. Surprised that Columbus threw in the pick considering how much longer they're on the hook with Hartnell. I think it's a shrewd move by the Flyers. RJ can likely provide as much offense, and a similar physical presence. They save a tad in cap space, and a lot of years in term.

Didn't Philly have both Umberger and Hartnell at one time?

Read on twitter that the flyers are going to make a move for Phaneuf out of TO and Hartnell was traded because the flyers don't believe the two can play together. Stupid reason to make a trade IMO, if Tucker can play with Peca I don't see why they can't. Just speculation, but not Impossible. The move by itself makes no sense at all. Would be like Habs trading Patches and a fourth for E. Kane. Lateral move at best. Makes no sense.

It's certainly a trade out of left field, and I think either player could have been a decent pick up for Berg. From a purely cap pov, if Hextall believes that Hartnell is on the decline getting out from under the further 5 years of the deal is a good move. They save 2 years of cap space and they got a draft pick too.

I read online that Hartnell was miffed at being traded ... don't know what he expected ... he's working for Paul Holmgren and he traded the future of his franchise when he let Carter and Richards go ... wouldn't surprise me if he is looking at Phaneuf ... after all, Holmgren has confidence in Steve Mason ... Cheers.
