I hope we don't have such immature, boneheaded fans. James Reimer's wife the recipient of disgusting tweets...again..... This time after the 6-2 loss to the Sabres. The Score

Malkin levelled Girardi behind the Pittsburgh net. Blindside....but clean hit, as the rules stand. Will those blindside hits be the next to outlaw....or should they remain in the "keep your head up" category? I ask because those kinds of hits lead to concussions as well. Doesn't have to be a head shot. I wouldn't be surprised if Girardi misses a few games. You know I am an advocate for cleaning up the game, but that's as clean a hit as you'll get in todays NHL. Girardi had the puck. So it wasn't late. Malkin hit him square in the chest, so it wasn't blindside. I don't even think you can call it charging. Charging is defined as a violent check as a result of distance travelled (even though the distance travelled is not specified). Watch the video again and look entirely at Malkin. Malkin skates across the ice (right to left) turns down to travel along the boards, sees the scrum along the boards and makes his way behind the net. At this point, Giradi does not have the puck and Malkin is still moving as if he intends to go behind the net. He doesn't accelerate towards Giradi at any moment. When Giradi reaches for the puck, Malkin is about 10-15 feet away. (Malkin is below the goal line on one side of the net and Giradi on the other). When Girardi lifts his head, that's the moment Malkin turns his body into Girardi. There is no evidence that I can see that Malkin stalked him and travelled any great distance to deliver a violent check.

I see this hit as being entirely within the rules. I would definitely entertain revising some rules, though. Players need to be given a legitimate chance to protect themselves on the ice. Imo, you should not be allowed to hit another player immediately once the player touches the puck. Not only would this help protect defensemen retrieving the puck, but it would also take some of the danger away from suicide passes. I think it would open up the game by improving breakouts substantially.

Just had to share this ... we have fans for every team at work ... lots of Leaf fans ... one in particular who keeps Leaf paraphernalia in his Corcan cubical ... only he's rolled up his Leaf car flag and stuck it upside down in the top of one of the supports ... I told him that the Leafs were playing good hockey now and maybe he might reconsider ... he told me he couldn't do it ... he just doesn't trust his team ... this morning I saw that he hadn't changed a thing ... and the Leafs just lost 6-2 to the Sabres ... "I told ya'" he said ... I guess he really doesn't trust his team ...
Cheers.

The ScoreHe seems like a genuinely nice guy. I don't understand why he wants to stay. He should request a trade for the sake of his wife. BTW, Bernier looked pretty average last night too.

Columbus lost to Boston 4-3 tonight, but the really great part was a fight between Lucic and a 24 year old defenseman on Columbus called Dalton Prout. He doesn't seem to be a goon, averaging less than one minute a game in Penalties in his relatively short NHL career. He knocked down Lucic with one punch. Kinda like Beaulieu's first fight this year. Boom! and Lucis is on his butt. Then after he gets up, a little wobbly, he still wants to go after Prout, who's looking relaxed. While the linesmen separate them, Lucic jabs Prout with a left and gets a game misconduct for his poor conduct. He was probably still seeing stars. Awesome punch. Loved it.

Can Bergevin get Prout? Not a fighting advocate but nice to see Lucy dropped like a sack of potatoes. Then he has has his usual tantrum. Is anyone in the league afraid of this guy any longer?

The only time to afraid this tool is when you're back is turned. When some plug you haven't heard of is decking Lucy with one punch, he's done. If Lucy can't play over the edge, the rest of his game falls apart imo.

If Lucy can't play over the edge, the rest of his game falls apart imo. I sure hope so. It certainly takes a lot away from his game. He'll get a lot less space and time now. PS, I wonder if Ryan Miller has that clip as a gif on his 70 inch set at home?

Lucic didn't drop his gloves….but he grabbed on as if he wanted to fight.
He'll likely claim he didn't want to fight and that Prout suckered him.
But we've all seen Lucic come in with an unexpected gloved punch before. At least Prout's gloves were off and they were in fight mode.

The childish hypocrites in Toronto saluted their fans tonight. So the last game really was a snub. Kypreos believes Shanahan laid down the law & reinstated it. Phaneuf, who said before hand that they weren't going to do it for a while, looks especially stupid. What a great captain.

I knew he'd look at it that way. Watch the video again. Prout knocks the stick out of Lucic's hands. Lucic comes back with a double-gloved punch to the back of Prout's head. Prout turns around…and Lucic paces towards him…clearly the aggressor. I'm sure he's saying, "I don't want to fight…" Prout drops the gloves and they both engage in the fight grapple. While Lucic takes off his left glove off, BAM! Then Lucic takes a poke after the linesmen break it up…then throws his other glove at Prout.

The guy is ridiculous. It's only fair, or not gutless, when it goes his way. Just a big baby. He's allowed to get away with it though, the league seems to love him. They enable him.

Lucy forgets, conveniently, that he likes to go in swinging with his gloves still on. He did on two occasions last night.

I was on NHL.com just to check the league standings ... the Islanders are one point out of first (overall) with a game in hand over Montreal, Anaheim and Tampa Bay ... ditto Nashville ... Pittsburgh is only one point off with two games in hand and a league-best +27 goal differential ... Calgary with 30 pts in 24 games ... surprised to see Dallas at 19th ... interesting times ...
Cheers.

St. Louis just recorded his 1,000th point. Pretty impressive for an undrafted guy who was too small to play in the NHL.

Oilers lose 5-2 at home to the Coyotes for their 10th straight loss. 0-7-3. Apparently, the fans left in droves during the third period....
Still winless against the Western Conference....0-12-3.
With all those top picks in recent years, how can management/coaches keep their jobs?
There should be a limit on how often a franchise gets rewarded for failure...if they get one of the two top picks again, it's a complete joke.

I kind of share BC's take on it ... the Oilers franchise is a mess ... with all of the talent they have they should be improving and they're not ... they're getting worse ... I don't follow the Oilers all that much so I really couldn't tell you what the problems are but, as an outsider looking in, I think every key position needs to be reevaluated ... I guess they might start with Eakins but that might only be a temporary solution ... Gionta and Gorges would have helped them, or so I think anyway ... Cheers.

There should be a limit on how often a franchise gets rewarded for failure...if they get one of the two top picks again, it's a complete joke. the whole lottery system is . . . but at least it isn't as bad as the NBAs! I say top pick once every 15 years max. and let everybody in on it, quit rewarding failure. sure it's supposed to help the poor teams become better, but is sure hasn't worked in this case! everyone in the draw. last place team gets 30 chances, 1st place team gets one. you win, you're out -- period -- the next x number of years. sure a decent team will get lucky every once in a while, but at least they aren't punished for playing well. but that's a whole 'nuther discussion.

... Gionta and Gorges would have helped them, or so I think anyway ... Cheers. Yup, I was thinking about how Buffalo went and got some veteran leadership - and I can't think that there aren't some decent western boys who'd love to sign for a team close to home, it's not like Edmonton needs to get some top performers, they need steady veterans to steady the kids.
