I have no sympathy for Leafers.......we went through it for a decade before things turned around.

The "ice-jersey" is a powerful in-arena gesture. Completely inappropriate during play, of course, but I can understand why it's done. You're looking at a lot of frustration. I'm just too cheap frugal to waste my money like that. how much you want to bet that next extended winning streak (1 game in a row for the Leafs) he goes out and buys a replacement? I can see it now -- the next promotion: "throw your jersey on the ice" night

I'd toss an old Leafs T-shirt from 1967 that needs washing. That's more my style. Not that I would have bought a Leafs uni to start with.

I'm of frugal mind, too, franko. I wouldn't even throw one of those expensive hats after a hat-trick…even though, in some instances, they go to charity. From 2009, "What Happens to the Hat-Trick Hats?" Gotta love the big transparent bin idea, so fans can see the accumulation of hats they've thrown.….which is nothing but transparent marketing. Buy another hat, sheeple. ==================================================== Afternoon host on TSN1050 telling his audience, and the media, to stop spending time chastising the jersey-throwers. His message: Don't let the players/team off the hook. Keep the spotlight on them.

Thanks, jkr. Yeah, that's him. His voice quality/delivery reminds me of that of an NFL or MLB play-by-play guy.
He's very good at his job.

With Boston's W tonight, the Leafs are now 9 pts. out of a Wild Card spot. Same number of games played (47).
Sens pick up a point and are only 2 back of Toronto, with two games-in-hand.

Boston winning again ... they're on a roll and I'd like to see them lose a few ... the Leafs are now also chasing Gerard Gallant's Panthers who have three games in hand on both the Bruins and Leafs ... the Rangers might be the team to beat in the Metropolitan Division ... they're possibly the hottest team right now ... edit: I don't want to disrespect the Islanders but the Rangers have been there before ... Man!

Thanks, jkr. I didn't know he was Bill's son. I've talked with Bill a handful of times at various commercial voice auditions over the years.
Super nice guy.

Bryan Hayes Show. TSN1050, Toronto.
Talking with James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail.
Mirtle and Hayes in agreement that, upon appointment to the position, Shanahan should've looked at video of the team from the past two years…and NOT started the year with the same coach, same core, etc.
The cosmetic changes they've made since he came aboard have done nothing but set the team back ANOTHER year. (My thought is that Shanahan was also a cosmetic change.)
They called Subban during Leafs' Lunch, during which PK said something like, "It's good for the whole league when the Leafs are doing well."
Good PR move on Subban's part….to a sagging Leaf Nation, he administered a dose of Viagra strong enough to raise the CN Tower. That's right, Toronto, you're still IMPOTENT….I mean IMPORTANT. Subban also empathized with Leaf players, saying it's no fun, etc.

I've got tickets to the Connor McDavid Bowl (Edmonton vs Toronto) in two weeks .... Luckily I don't own a jersey to throw on the ice, wouldn't want to disrupt the public enjoyment of the arena. Funny how the Ontario Police don't get their knickers in a bunch over hats on the ice. Some police chief is a die hard fan looking to stir the pot.

The cosmetic changes they've made since he came aboard have done nothing but set the team back ANOTHER year. (My thought is that Shanahan was also a cosmetic change.) I firmly believe many people get ahead on their looks. We're genetically programmed to feel more trust in someone who looks good even if, under their Armani suit, they have scales instead of skin (my apologies to all reptiles everywhere). All things equal, why not have a good looking someone instead of a plain someone in a position? That doesn't really happen, of course. Bosses don't run away with their ordinary looking secretaries. I digress. What I mean is that packaging is tres important when considering the reaction of your customers, like, say....all Leaf fans. Do you really want Dave Nonis in charge if you can have Shanny in charge? You bet it's a cosmetic change and because of that, you're not going to see Canadiens 2.0 happening in Toronto any time soon. PS. The above is no reference to Marc Bergevin's looks. Fotunately, he has a brain and that's much more important. A smart Adonis, I can live with. I am no judge of such things, so any similarity to real life events and characters in the above post is purely coincidental. Whew, lawsuit free.

Leafs down 3-1 after two in Ottawa. It was 3-0 after the first, but the Sens have backed off. A couple of Leaf PPs turned some momentum.
Sens played last night at MSG, so Toronto might have a shot in the third to really make a game out of it.

Sens hang on for 4-3 win. 3 whole goals for the leaves, baby steps.
Just can't get away from the leaf talk if you pay attention to sports media. Good, mediocre, or terrible, it's a top story.

Leafs came to life with the help of PPs…and the Sens were sagging in the second half of the game, having played last night.
Had both teams been rested, Ottawa would've run away with it. With the W, they vault the Leafs in the standings.
Toronto's gone 3-14-0 in their last 17 games.

I saw a bit of the game last night ... didn't hold my interest ... I came into work this morning and my friend in the next office (a huge Leaf fan) still has his car flag rolled up and stuffed down a retaining bracket off his office cubical ... that's pretty significant given his passion for his club ... in very general terms the Leaf fans I know are very quiet ... I don't talk to them about their club, I don't engage in bravado (unless they want to) and I thank the stars that we don't have that kind of circus in Montreal any longer ... still, given all of that, I'd like to know what Leaf fans think the solution is ... might be hard for them to talk about it though ...
Cheers.

On one radio show yesterday, whenever Leaf futility was referenced…it was magically reduced.
e.g. "Of course, the fans are frustrated! It's been 40 years!"
Ummm, try almost 50.
Anybody born on May 2, 1967 will be 48 this year.

All the leaf fans I know want the thing blown up...they want Nonis gone, Kessel, Dion, goaltenders, JVR trade anything that have value for prospects and picks. They are tired of the players complaining about the fans, the whining etc.
I really can't blame them.

My son was watching & he said in the 1st period Phaneuf slew footed Michalek which led to a fight. Any body else see it? Was it suspension worthy?

I saw the tussle….but Hughson/Simpson/Healy didn't mention it.
But now that I see the replay starting at 1:06 of this clip….there certainly was a slew foot. Simpson: "…a couple of whacks…a couple of hacks…a little crosscheck….he gets spilled down…"
==================================
In the Carolina game, Eric Staal blasted the empty net goal from close range with Phaneuf standing in front.
Staal had this response to a reporter's question….
Chris Johnston ✔ @reporterchris Follow Eric Staal on slapshot EN goal vs. #leafs: "I knew it was (Phaneuf). I was either putting it in by him or hitting him with a good one."

It was, indeed, a slew foot jkr ... then Phaneuf kept crosschecking him on the ice until Michalek simply had enough and Phaneuf filled him in ... I'm hoping there is further action taken by the league on that one ... it's not like he plays for the Patriots, eh ... did anyone see Kessel on that breakaway he had ... that was probably the worst I've seen him look when he's had a chance ... he really looked unsure of himself ... that's just me, though ... Cheers.
