Taking the positives out of this game.
One point is okay, considering the circumstances at the 35-minute mark.
If not for Eller's late highstick, we might have won this in regulation.
That's what I'd take out of this game....how we played afterwards.
Very impressed with Petry and Gilbert.
DD and Max with great patience and shots in the shootout.
MT with a class move giving Eller the chance to tie it. Hit the crossbar.
We'd better thrash the Coyotes.

I agree. We were badly outplayed though the first half but came one strong to tie it and thought we played a great third period. We were all set to close it out and Eller's rather flukey high stick did us in. I was very pleased with our third period and thought we deserved 2 points. But I'm happy with one and Carey getting a rest. Feel bad for Toker although he was beat pretty cleanly on 3 of the 4 shoot outs.
Petry and DSP played their best games as Habs so far. More please.
I am so impressed with Rosey. I can't believe he is only 19. He has tremendous speed, size which he uses - and perhaps the smartest 19 year old I've seen play. He is a keeper and will provide us with a big centre for years. Perhaps not a great scorer but definitely an imposing figure (Bobby Holik?). Simply love watching him play!
Markov needs a rest. He is clearly worn down and it will only get worse. We need him fresh for the playoffs. We've got enough depth on D to allow him a game off.

Took them a bit to find their big boy pants.
Our top 2 centers are poke checkers. Physicality = 0. When they don't try to be involved a little bit, it isn't pretty. They were so bad I think it hurt their pride a little bit. I would have been fine with giving their ice time to DLR and Eller. Fortunately they were better after the first.
Eller, the tougher it gets, the better he plays.
For a big team, the Kings sure have a problem standing up. The refs were idiots.
I said it in the game thread, but I'm going to say it again. If these guys don't bring it, if they, for any reason aren't prepared to do the dirty work, it won't work.
It's disappointing to lose, but a point seemed unrealistic after the first. I'll take it.

Weaver only played 5 mins. When did he fall out of favour with MT? Both Petry and Gilbert played more mins than Markov. But Markov played 10 ore minutes than Beau. Very strange.
Our PP let us down again. Had a chance to make it 4-2.
I also thought the Kings sure fall down easy for such a big tough team.
If we can beat the Yotes then 3 out of 8 isn't bad on this tough road trip.

I fell asleep shortly after the Kings first goal ... Damn west coast games!!
I woke up and checked the box score and saw Eller got the penalty where the Kings tied it up (less than a minute !! ... Arrrgh ... We seem to do that a lot) And Eller missed his shootout attempt. Thought I'd come in and read people thrashing him ... Good to see he played well.
What were the circumstances at the 35 min mark??

Thought I'd come in and read people thrashing him ... Good to see he played well. Eller did what he's been doing all year, which is to drive possession but not produce. He was one of only 3 Habs forward with a 50% Corsi (Pax and DSP were the others). The high stick was kind of flukey and it was nice to see MT use him in the shootout. Of course he hit the post...

Imo the game changed when the boys started hitting. .. i expect to see that level of hitting from now on. I wasn't impressed with Quick in the shootout. .. patches dd and Eller made him look like a flopping fish. .. Unfortunately our goalie was frozen in time and shots flew by him.

Markov looks tired and needs a week off... like the Habs used to do in the 70s

What were the circumstances at the 35 min mark?? Up to that point, we had a grand total of 5 shots on Quick…and I don't recall any of them being dangerous. Down 2-0. There were no signs we were going to flip a switch like that. Toker actually made some nice saves to keep the Kings at 2. Shootouts….bah.

Didn't see the game, but checked in on the thread. From what I gathered, the Kings got away with a lot of interference while they went down fairly easy on some of our penalty calls.
Remind me which team is supposed to be full of divers?

Yep, the Kings also got away with tons of fouls…hooking, interference. And yes, there were two dives that resulted in penalties to us…but no embellishment accompanied.
Meanwhile, Max got called for falling down and holding on to (ruled "playing with") a broken stick he had no idea was broken.
I hope that game serves as a turning point in terms of physical play and guts. The last 25 minutes and OT were fun to watch.

Yeah, he called the broken stick on Pacioretty.
I thought it was weak considering what was being let go.

Sounds like 2 teams aiming for the SO.

Yeah, he called the broken stick on Pacioretty. What a tool. He's the one that needs a suspension. Him and Peel are the worst in the league.

He had fallen and the stick was raised in the air. Didn't even try to play the puck. To those of us watching the game, it appeared to be Kings-are-trying-to-make-the-playoffs-management. Although, we did have a PP opportunity to make it 4-2….and that part of our game continues to fizzle.

The kings don't scare me in a 7 game series. .. we have 4 new additions in the lineup including dsp and we had our backup in. Doughty didn't impress me.

(Lee) and Peel are the worst in the league. I don't know that any team likes either of them reffing . . . Sens broadcasters and fans are usually all over them for having a bias. maybe it isn't bias . . . maybe it's incompetence.

L.A. announcer says, "SAVE by Quick!" on Eller's shootout attempt….but it hit the crossbar.
You'd almost think Toker loses track of his net-bearings when he pushes out beyond the crease at the beginning of each shootout try.
Those three shots beat him cleanly. Too much room given up.

What were the circumstances at the 35 min mark?? Gilbert scored at 15:15 of the second. That turned things around. A difference between this Kings team and previous ones appears to be their drive. While they won enough battles due to size, as has been pointed out, they fell a lot which indicates they're choosing to go down rather than to keep moving their feet (which is tiring and hard to keep up). That happens naturally to teams that have won and is the reason it's difficult to keep winning. While one hates to lose, there were encouraging signs. Tokarski had a decent game. HE still looks like a deer in the headlights at lot and wasn't tracking the puck well at times. He also really stunk in the shootout, but he did more than his share in getting the single point. Justin Williams didn't hurt us. Jonathan Quick is more like Jonathan Ambler. I thought the Kings D was kind of weak, but see that Alec Martinez didn't play and he's a good one for them. The Petry dish had an excellent game as did Gilbert. They conributed greatly to our single point and if they continue to play like that may have moved our D up to the Rangers's level of quality. Ours may even be better. AS was mentioned above, I'm not sure why Therrien went to basically 5 D. Shortening the bench? Did anyone see Weaver make a humongous mistake or was he hurting?

When emelin is back weaver will need to be sent down if they can do it contractually. It also gives mt the chanve to give big minutes guys/vets games off to rest up like Markov Gonchar and pk

It doesn't make sense that Weaver could have regressed so much in one year. I thought he was one of our very best defensemen last year down the stretch and into the playoffs. He basically made Gorges expendable.
I thought Petry, Gilbert, PK, Eller all had excellent games.
The quasi turning point for me was a small play by Weise in the 2nd period. Quick gobbled up a rebound as Weise was charging the net. Regehr got in his way, but Weise wouldnt let up and kept trying to charge the Regehr even though the whistle had gone. It reminded me of Playoff Weise. After that, I noticed a lot more fight in our game.

This most recent incarnation of Petry and Gilbert (and against a tough, Western team) helps me miss Tinordi, Pateryn and even Emelin (for far too many of his games this season) a lot less.
Weaver is a different player than last spring. What a slide.

I forgot about that jkr... he's near the end of his career and maybe he is gun shy. ... which i totally understand. I'll always have a soft spot for weaver after he stood up to Chara in the playoffs last year But the other D have passed him by on the depth chart. I am pleased with the depth we have on D and in the bottom 6. It looks like weise and Eller are getting into playoff mode and dsp is picking it up so hopefully Eller and weise can help us with secondary scoring.
