If Saturday night's Rah-Rah Sharks is any indication....(and after last year's treatment at the hands of HNIC)...I added the words in red to this sentence from the article.
It’s no mystery that the Leafs have essentially packed it in on the season and perhaps Rogers is getting an early start on pumping up interest in cheering for anyone but the Habs for what the network hopes will be a long and ratings rich playoff run.

I didn't take that from the article, despite the fact it was in the Sun. It was more a eulogy for Leafs games on tv, which were drawing fewer and fewer viewers. As the article suggests, I did think it was unusual for the Habs/Sharks game to be carried rather than the Sens/Bruins game which was so critical to the Sens playoff hopes. That, perhaps, indicates how much love there is in TO for Ottawa.

Jumping off the 'bandwagon' would be as transparent a move as when HNIT jumped on it 15 or more years ago. Both are rat moves. Even as a Habs fan, I've never suggested a move to something where the Leafs are ignored. It's a national broadcast, and should be treated as such. There's no reason the prime time game can't alternate from one week to the next.
What the HNIC production don't seem to understand is that if they aren't showing the Leafs it's not their job to pander to the masochistic Leafs fan tuning in to watch the Habs. No more blatant and open rooting for whoever the Habs are playing. No more blatant slander of players or backhanded compliments.
There are plenty of reporters from coast to coast, including Toronto and Montreal, who can do the job. Plenty that won't blow sunshine for Leafs fans.
Just remove the bias. That's what we want. Maybe things will change when Cherry dies/retires. Unfortunately I won't be tuning in until things have changed.

I don't mind Rogers being Leafs-biased. I expect it. They're a major owner of MLSE. If their mandate is to be unbiased, however, they're failing miserably. Ha!
What bothered me was all those years at the idealistically neutral CBC...when the HNIC national broadcast was realistically waving the blue-and-white ad nauseam, while showing open contempt for the Habs.
