Bishop lets in a SH softie, Wings up 3-1; this is a series I wouldn't mind being wrong about.

Tampa with huge edge in shots, but Wings holding. I have not been impressed with Bishop this year. Hopefully that holds true for another 4 games.

Wings have been badly out shot, but I wouldn't say Mrazek has stood on his head. Wings are collapsing around their goalie, and Bolts shots are largely coming from the outside. I thought this was going to be 'the sweep' of the first round.
Crosby a no-show again tonight in a 2-1 loss in NYC. Rags carried play early. Pens fought back. Their bottom six drove the bus. Malkin was more noticeable, but still a lot of ill timed and ill conceived rushes. He and Sid desperately need quality wingers. Pens are painfully thin on D, and really small compared to the Rangers D.

Jimmy Howard not in goal for Detroit. Instead it's Petr Mrazek.

That's how decimated they are.

I think Cooper's a good coach but one thing he can't overcome is weak goaltending.

Cap world, injuries, and drafted players like Despres not developing. And Martin's not bad, nor Scuderi, but we're talking 4, 5 & 6 type guys

Perry scores and then play continues and a penalty is called, they review the play where Perry thought he had scored and it was in, yet penalty still stands??? Apologies if I am getting this wrong, no sound where I am, but if the above is true, HOW can a penalty happen after a goal when play should have stopped?
If I'm right the NHL just went to a whole other level of confusionality.

It makes sense to me. While you have to credit the team with the goal, there's no time machine to move everything back to where it was at the time the goal was scored. Some things you can't ignore. If a key player gets injured afterward, can you heal them? You do what you can. It's imperfect, but reasonable.

Biggest feature of the night to me was Bishop's poor play against the Wings. The Glendenning goal was a result of really poor quality goaltending. I'd love to see that continue. I'd love to see Detroit derail da Lightning. Works for me.

Penalties can only be assessed to the scoring team ... Cause future penalties are deemed to have occured when apparent goal was scored.
However, the other team is out of luck if they score a goal also when play goes on .... Even if the goal was illegally put in.
When a team scores an apparent goal that is not seen by the on- ice officials and play continues, the play shall be reviewed by the Video Goal Judge at the next stoppage of play. If the goal is confirmed by video review, the clock (including penalty time clocks, if applicable) is re-set to the time the goal was scored. If the goal is not confirmed by video review, no adjustment is required to the clock time. Only one goal can be awarded at any stoppage of play. If the apparent goal was scored by Team A, and is subsequently confirmed as a goal by the Video Goal Judge, any goal scored by Team B during the period of time between the apparent goal By Team A and the stoppage of play (Team B’s goal), the Team B goal would not be awarded. However, if the apparent goal by Team A is deemed to have entered the goal, albeit illegally (i.e. distinct kicking motion), the goal shall be disallowed by the Video Goal Judge and since the play should have stopped for this disallowed goal, no goal can be awarded to Team B on the same play. The clock (including penalty time clocks, if applicable) must be re-set to the time of the disallowed Team A goal and play resumed. Any penalties signaled during the period of time between the apparent goal and the next stoppage of play shall be assessed in the normal manner, except when a minor penalty is to be assessed to the team scored upon, and is therefore nullified by the scoring of the goal. Refer to Rules 16.2 and 18.2. If an infraction happens after the first stoppage of play following an apparent goal (infraction after the whistle) by either team, it is assessed and served in the normal manner regardless as to the decision rendered by the Video Goal Judge.

Weber leaves game with lower body injury. It was an innocent hit in the corner. Definite knee injury.

Sometimes referees are embarrassed by players like Kozari was in game one. But sometimes officials embarrass themselves. Check out this goal by Kane. There are too many men on for Chicago but play goes on & Kane scores. Not sure if you can see it in the celebration but there are six Hawk skaters in their little scrum. www.nhl.com/gamecenter/en/boxscore?id=2014030162sorry - couldn't get the direct link - click on the Kane goal.

Watching the pens and rags. Pens are undisciplined, but the rags are flopping.

It's been bad. They better watch it or they'll get a rep and actually get called on it. Unfortunately the nhl powers at be only see what they want to see.
I think the ref realized he made a mistake on the last penguin penalty. He made a bit of a chintzy hook call on the rags pretty soon after. Which isn't good either though.

No. Have any of the Rags players been fined for diving? Hagelin in particular appears to be a guy who'll flop at any chance ... and that visor is ridiculous. If you're gonna tilt it up like that, just take it off.

Ducks are getting away with a lot too. Copperberg held Bryan Little's stick quite blatantly so he couldn't get to a puck around the boards. Copperberg gets the puck and scores. Yeah, you don't call it as tight in the playoffs, but when you swing a possession that obviously, it should be called.

Yeah, you don't call it as tight in the playoffs, but when you swing a possession that obviously, it should be called. You mean Silfverberg, right ? The challenge for the officials is that the actual infraction seemed harmless enough, it's just that it led to an eventual scoring chance, that led to a winning goal.

Dumb high sticking penalty by Ladd allows Ducks to tie the game. Silfverberg wins it win 21 seconds left in the 3rd.

I've watched that about 10 times now, I don't think it was to Crosby's jaw. I think the whiplash got him more. Later in the third he got hit again and he was on the bench making movements with his mouth that hinted at jaw problems, but I don't think it was the Hagelin hit
