Not sure if you guys have been following this story but it seems like there might be some interest from Babcock and Montreal? I know it's coming from mostly Leaf nation but this could get interesting. If we lose badly to Tampa and our PP doesn't wake up would MB make a change?
Regardless of how this series ends, I hope MB at least kicks the tires on Babcock, if he doesn't I would be VERY disappointed.

I would do it in a hearbeat. I'm not sure Therrien is much loved among the fans and the media, although it seems Bergevin can do no wrong. Which tells me he has the credibility with the fans/media to fire Therrien, hire Babcock and everyone would look the other way on the language issue. Especially if this series ends quickly.
It comes down to a few key points. Despite the 110 points, does Berg feel that the Habs have plateaued under Therrien? We all know that the offense and the PP have stagnated for 2 years and our success was in large part due to a Vezina/Hart year from Carey Price. How much better can this group be under Therrien? Can he fix the problems that have been persistent for 2 years?
And then could Babcock do better? The Montreal situation, IMO, is far better than Toronto and probably still better than Edmonton despite the future arrival of Connor McDavid. Babcock would inherit a franchise goalie in his prime, a franchise dman in his prime, an elite scoring forward, and some very good other pieces to work with. This isn't a rebuilding project. He has strong ties to the city as a McGill grad..... You could make a VERY good sales pitch to Babcock on the Habs job.
Do it Marc! Do it!

...would be nice but that's a pipe dream Yeah. Even if we get swept, I think Berg probably feels that Therrien has earned the right to keep coaching the team after our first 50-win season since 1988/89. I get that and I believe continuity is important in an organization, but we're talking about one of the best coaches in the league! Nobody believes that about Therrien. Which gets me to my lingering concern about Berg. He has done a good job tinkering around the edges, and making opportunistic but low-risk deals like the Vanek and Petry trades. But he hasn't done anything bold or risky, which is fine but I think we are getting to that point. Moves like Briere/PAP, Sekac/DSP, Gilbert, Mitchell/Flynn, signing DD, signing Emelin, signing Eller.....most of them OK, although I'm sure he would take back the Briere/PAP deal and maybe the Emelin contract. This summer will be interesting, depending on how this series goes. If we just ice the same team with a couple of minor tweaks... I don't think that's good enough, and if we have even a small chance to convince Mike Babcock to come on board you have to at least try.

Mike Babcock doesn't have a great deal of affinity for Subban ... Let's remember how he downplayed PK at the Olympics. I suppose if PK suddenly became his best defenseman, he would find the love, but I don't think he really likes PK
Second, just look at all the really good coaches over the past 40 years. There have been lots. Only one won a Stanley Cup one more than one team. Sure Badcock could break that string, but I wouldn't bet on it. In this year's playoffs, only Bob Hartley has a chance of ending that streak. That says something.

Babcock definitely likes his right shot, right side set up. IMO, I don't think he'd have any problem coaching PK and I don't think PK would have any trouble with him.
While I can't imagine a scenario where he actually IS the coach, I'd welcome it. IMO, he'd be the best coach the team has had since Bowman.

I don't think Therrien's job is at risk until Nov or December of 2016, at the earliest. Teams don't replace coaches when they've finished 2nd. It took almost 3 and 1/2 seasons for him to lose his job in Pittsburgh and that was after a loss in the SC finals and a .518 winning percentage the following year in his 4th season with the club.

Prior to the Olympics he inferred that Subban wasn't trustworty and said all the talent , skating, shot, skill, in the world didn't matter if he couldn't trust him. At the Olympics when asked about a Norris winner on the bench, he said something to the effect that he is playing the 6 best defensemen in Canada. It was a learning experience for PK, and he said as much that he took it that way ... Statements above are equivalent to Therrien rants on AntiChambre. It took two years for Therrien to trust PK.

He used to get on Antichambre and criticize Subban. I'm sure Babcock could work it out though. However, I doubt this will happen. I would like some continuity at the coaches position & I think Bergevin does too.

Babcock does not speak French, so this is a total fabrication IMHO. Does Bergevin have the cojones to ignore what has become a prerequisite to qualify for the job interview? That would pleasantly shock the hell out of me!
I don't think that Bergevin wants to put the franchise through what happened during the last days of Gauthier's reign. Because IMHO, regardless of the success garnered by Babcock's coaching, there will always be the Rejean Tremblays of this world, (and his minions) causing crap about the language ìssue`.

We say these things as if Therrien's job is on the line. I'm not so certain that it is.

I doubt Babcock would be interested in coming to Montreal as a simple GM with the added pressure of learning French. I would fire Bergevin as well and I would offer Mike Babcock a combined job of Head-Coach and General Manager reporting directly to ownership (Geoff Molson) without any pressure to learn French. They can always use simultaneous translation on the screen.

PK? we aren't getting a high flyer for DD or Weiss. I'm thinking the problem . . . and I'm pretty sure I'm not being original here . . . is a poor PP, and maybe a coach that is dialed in to his grinding ways.

It won't happen, but it's worth a conversation.
We are very close to the "shelf life" of Michel Therrien. Has lasted less than 3 years in Montreal before and about 3.5 years in Pittsburgh before things went bad.
The 50 wins, 110 points and a 2nd round playoff appearance would suggest we are on the right track and Therrien should be safe. And I suspect that's where we end up. But we all know if you look deeper there is an over-reliance on goaltending and a lack of offensive production.

A sweep by Tampa might be what he needs... especially if he can bring in someone who has instant credibility throughout the league. It ain't going to happen but it is nice to dream.

I'm not sure if this is the right place but I'll post this here. Feel free to move it if necessary. Heard Guy Boucher on TSN radio 2 nights ago. He's coaching in Switzerland but has an out in his contract if he's offered an NHL job. He didn't have that "out" last year. He let it slip that he has been approached by an NHL team but didn't mention if it was for a head coaching position.

Based on the 2014-15 results shown in your third paragraph, I doubt Therrien will get the boot over the summer months. However, any losing streak exceeding 5 games in the new season with indications that he may have lost his room will prompt Bergevin to get rid of him in order to save his own job. The Habs brass won't wait for the playoffs run to be jeopardized before taking action.

At which point Babcock will already be under contract for Detroit or another team and there will be no good options mid-season, if that happens, other than promoting an assistant on an interim basis or (gulp) Sylvain Lefebvre!
I'd rather be too early than too late on this stuff.

There will be time for post-mortems, but I would put Galchenyuk at the top of the list in terms of biggest playoff disappointment. I expected more from him. Way more.

Just saw a Dreger interview with Babcock & Holland. Apparently Babcock is speeding up the process & will make a decision with a week or so. Dreger's feel is that he is staying in Detroit.

Be hard to imagine a scenario where he leaves now. The two of them doing an interview together would have you believe they're close on a deal.
