Yes, he's been quite inconsistent, so it's hard to get a read on his development, but he's had far more good games lately than bad games and that's a good sign. Paquale had a good game last night too, despite the loss.

Paquale had a good game last night too, despite the loss. Patience is the key. There's no need to rush him. He's a natural athlete. With Waite helping him, and time to season/mature, I believe the inconsistency will weed itself out.

Albeit with an incredibly deleted lineup due to injuries and call ups, the IceCaps did not do their challenging playoff hopes any favours losing both games against bottom feeding Bingo Sens this weekend.
And Sly still has a coaching job why??
If the Habs were to be eliminated from the the playoffs, the IceCaps lineup could be pretty decent in the playoffs...unfortunately they have to get their first.

Yeah, that was a fabulous effort by Bud Holloway. Hope the Berg can find a way to keep this guy around as a vet for the IceCaps for next season, as he has been one of the better signings for the farm team in ages. I do expect he will test the market to try and find a team with a better chance to make the show. I am sure he wants more NHL ice time than the 8 minutes MT was generous enough to give him.

IceCaps streak against the Albany Devils came to a halt last night, losing 4-3. Hudon was back from injury and scored, and Bozon scored his first two career AHL goals. The team continues to slip a bit further back from the last playoff spot. I get all the injuries and call ups, but how could a coach keep his job if he misses the playoffs for the fourth straight year since taking over? m.youtube.com/watch?v=VVvMD8G5vpQ

Loyalty and commitment to your staff is a wonderful attribute, but it should only go so far in a results based business where there have been inadequate results. Sure, the standard line is it is about development more so than results. I think it has to be both. You want to breed a culture of winning and having some success. When you hear the Habs talk about draft picks, they do put a lot of stock on guys who have been part of winning organizations. You should not give your farm team a four year mulligan.

Totally agree, NWT, but the natural consequences have to start from above. Berg has an iron clad position, extended for 6, count em, 6 years at a salary probably of about $4MM a year (my assumption based on MT getting half of that). There are no natural consequences for Berg. He gets fired, he will be paid $24MM for doing nothing. Nice work if you can get it. So what incentive does Berg have to actually improve anything? Nada. History may vilify him, but $24MM buys a thick skin. Or $18MM if he's only getting $3MM a year. Rhino thickness. Good word. There seems to be a lot of thickness around these days.

Slipping just a little bit further out of that elusive playoff spot. The Caps played Utica last night, the team who should be fully in the IceCaps sights as they hold that 8th and final playoff spot. Unfortunately, the boys came up short 4-1 on the road. Holloway with the only marker. They finish up this road trip in Syracuse tonight.
Utica is the Nucks' farm team, and it is interesting to see both Chris Higgins and Brandon Prust on the team!
The IceCaps are four points out, but they have played the most games in the conference so every team has game(s) in hand. They also have to leap frog a few teams. This is all still doable, but their roster is getting thinner and thinner with all these call ups and their own injuries. They just are not a competitive enough of a lineup compared to earlier in the season. Sure, all AHL teams face this to some extent this time of year, but the number of man games lost for the Habs and IceCaps does make it more acute.

I suspect it's more a case of brain games lost than man games lost. Are we supposed to believe 4 years of excuses?

Wow, IceCaps outshoot Syracuse 45-30 and most importantly out score them 5-1 for a big win at the end of a very dismal road trip. Pasquale with the W. Goals by Brown, Hanley, Ranger, Hudon and Dumont.
Considering the somewhat scary defense with all those call ups, some nice momentum for the long trip home.

It will be interesting to see if the Habs assign any guys to the IceCaps. In order for players to be eligible for the playoffs, it must happen today be 3:00 Eastern. Not sure how it impacts call ups that are going to play in San Jose tonight. Then again, are the playoffs even in their sights? Four points back, but the team holding that last spot has three games in hand and there are a few teams to pass. Trying to break the Lefebvre playoff futility streak looks hard still.

IceCaps vs Albany on tape delay tonight on RDS starting at 8:00pm ET.
Not many prospects left that are not called up, but I will check out Hudon, Scherbak, Lernout, Fucale, and Friberg.

Didn't catch the game, but the second period had some wild dustups. Mark MacMillan (!) got 5 for fighting and a game misconduct for secondary altercation. The Dietz and John Scott fought some River Rats as well (so much better name than Devils). And best of all, we win 3-1. Hudon gets a goal assisted by Dumont and Scherbak. Some guys called McNally and Yogan playing for the IceCaps. Yuck.

Some guys called McNally and Yogan playing for the IceCaps. Yuck. It was entertaining, for sure. That Hudon goal was nice. Scherbak gets a hard shot through on net from the half wall, rebound to Dumont who is parked right in front, nifty little short pass to Hudon who is at the post...goal. The scored the others on the rush. All three in under two minutes. Ranger and McNally with the goals. Pasquale was solid in net. The game was a dog in the first. The IceCaps system looked something between skate around aimlessly and chase Albany all period. Much better from the second onwards. Then it got nasty. Some hits from behind, the worst being some guy cross checking Sherbak into the turnbuckle at the end of the bench. Flashback to you know what. He left the game, but the good news was he was back in the third and skating well. Some of his rushes are great to watch. He also plays a much more responsible game as he was often the first guy back deep in support. The scraps...five in total. MacMillan (did not know he could fight!), was part of a line brawl. One scrap started, then he started number two, then all ten skaters had their gloves off and were punching or wrestling away. Dietz's fight was after the Scherbak hit. He took out the guy. The Rat got two for boarding and five. Dietz got two for instigating and five. No PP despite the original offense that was major penalty worthy just on danger factor alone. John Scott was wearing the A and was the guy talking to the refs and was not happy with the calls. Next face off, he just wailed away at his counterpart right off the puck drop. Exit side door left for him! At least the other guy punched back so he got a fighting major too. McNally is a guy they have had on AHL contract since the beginning of the season. He played some last year I believe too. He was on the top line with Scherbak and Holloway. Yogan just signed a PTO and was in his first game with the team. Alexandre Ranger is a 20 year old who played in the Q and has been at Habs development camp. All fillers for the lineup given the number of call ups and injuries. None looked out of place.

I love Scott's reaction to the incompetent refs. Not at all like gentleman Georges Laraque. "If you're not going to police this game, I will". Boom. Message sent. Unfortunately he got a game misc or it might have been even more interesting in the 3rd.
PS. How did McMillan make out in the fight(s)? I'm surprised too, but in college of course, there is no fighting. He didn't have a lot of minutes in the BCHL with Penticton.

Don't recall Mark's fight as the whole line brawl thing made it hard to notice. I think he was about 163 lbs in Penticton, so not exactly a fighter's frame! Here is Scott's fight. youtu.be/sk45HLMQ8Bg

Cheers.

Scherbak has been playing with more confidence lately and getting rewarded. Too bad his first multi point pro game ended with an OT loss.

Albany was awarded a PP with 58 secs left in OT. A cross crease pass was intercepted by Didier but he then shot it into his own net, I guess he thought he was past the post.
Scherbak's goal tonight was a laser and a beauty play by Holloway to feed him the puck.
Weird game. We we leading 2-0, then trailing 4-2 by the end of the first. Then slowly they chipped away to get it to 4-3 and then late in the third the Albany defenseman fans on it and it is jumped on by McNally and he falls into the goalie as he was tripped and they counted it.
Hard luck in OT

It was a big night for the second line last night as they accounted for three of the four goals on route to a 4-2 win over the Bingo Sens. Dumont had a goal and two assists, Friberg and Hudon both had a goal and an assist, and Bakker had the other goal. Pasquale was in net for the win. The rematch is tonight and it is on tape delay on RDS at 7:30 Eastern. Da highlights. m.youtube.com/watch?v=xszuGsyz8XM

Unless you suffer from insomnia, fo NOT watch tonight's game .... It was the worst game of hockey I've ever watched. Lefebvre has no clue how to coach these guys. Sure they are a totally different team, but they were totally disorganized. The score was 4-1 Bingo, (I left with a minute to go) but the score flatters both teams. Senators were just as disorganized.
Yogan got the IceCap goal on a wraparound. Fucale played well.

The PP was as bad as I have seen, and the level of effort against the worst team in the East was unacceptable. At least on tv it was compressed into two hours, as they cut out intermissions. Painful after them throwing over 40 shots at O'Connor last night.
