Can the arbitrator even adjust the amount? I thought he or she had to choose the player's number or the team's number. That could be an old rule, though. In any case, Holtby or his agent obviously feel Washington doesn't have much in the way of options. Course, they could always trade him afterward. I believe that's happened before. It will be harder to trade a goalie with that salary number (assuming he's awarded the $8MM).

Seems arbitrator can choose a number between the two.

Hasn't quite proven it yet, but sometimes one wonders if he won't be worth it. He's better than I originally thought.

No way he's worth that. He could easily be Andrew Raycroft. He's no Price or Lundqvist. Mind you, this is a league where you have contracts like Clarkson's so what do I know?

He's cashing in on a great year. Price at $6.5 million vs. Holtby at $6 million. I know who I choose.

The goalie market salaries don't typically explode like the other positions, and you don't often see goalies cash in on one year. Carey has 3 more years at $6.5 million. I think that's enough overlap to compare as well, but when Carey's contract is up I don't see him getting Crosby money.
