In 1935, British engineer Robert Watson-Watt was working on a “death ray” that would destroy enemy aircraft using radio waves. His “death ray” instead evolved into radar—or “radio detection and ranging.”

William Patrick "Willy" Stuart-Houston (né Hitler; 12 March 1911 – 14 July 1987) was the nephew of Adolf Hitler. Born to Adolf's brother, Alois Hitler, Jr., and his first wife, Bridget Dowling in Liverpool, Lancashire (now in Merseyside), William later moved to Germany and subsequently emigrated to the United States, where he enlisted and fought in World War II. The 369th Infantry Regiment, formerly known as the 15th New York National Guard Regiment, was an infantry regiment of the United States Army National Guard that saw action in World War I and World War II. The Regiment consisted of African-Americans and African Puerto Ricans and was known for being the first African-American regiment to serve with the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. Before the 15th New York National Guard Regiment was formed, any African American that wanted to fight in the war either had to enlist in the French or Canadian armies. The regiment was nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters, the Black Rattlers and the Men of Bronze, which was given to the regiment by the French. The nickname "Hell Fighters" was given to them by the Germans due to their toughness and that they never lost a man through capture, lost a trench or a foot of ground to the enemy.

Anyone remember these ... I guess you haven't been to Winnipeg lately . . . 7-11 fights with Tim Horton's for street corners. Still the 7-11 capital of the world.

Anyone remember these ... I guess you haven't been to Winnipeg lately . . . 7-11 fights with Tim Horton's for street corners. Still the 7-11 capital of the world. I was there the summer before last and I didn't notice ... didn't have to use the 7-11's, I guess ... got to love the 70's, man ... Cheers.

A screenshot from the last known footage of Laurel and Hardy….taken in 1956 at Stan's residence. Stan had suffered a stroke in 1955. Ollie had recently dropped a lot of weight, finally taking care of himself after a heart attack. But in September of that year, Hardy suffered a major stroke which left him bed-ridden…..after two more strokes in 1957, he slipped into a coma and died on August 7 at the age of 65. Stan was too ill to go to the funeral, according to Wikipedia. He would pass away in 1965 at age 74. According to their legendary producer, Hal Roach….both were "freight train smokers". (Don't know the identity of the young man between them.)
