Almost 700 points in 973 games spanning 15 years. Not a bad career. I wish Montreal would have signed him when he was in his prime. Had he not gone to Philly instead, we might have avoided the whole Scott Gomez fiasco.

Few players during his time were more clutch in the playoffs. He accomplished a lot for an undersized player who played the best years of his career in an era preoccupied with size before skill.

I can't find the reference right now, but I remember reading that Briere was 20 minutes away from signing with Montreal before he decided to sign with the Flyers ... IIRC, the Habs offered Briere the same contract; term/cash, as the Flyers did, but he chose Philly instead ... it really caught Montreal off guard ... Cheers.

Rumour went round that he wouldn't sign with Montreal because they wouldn't commit to making him a #1 center. Though I think many here thought he was using Montreal as means of getting more money out of other teams (apparently you can do that).
