There was a big thread up last night on HF. Dubinsky cross-checked him in the neck, sending Sid to the ice. He then cross-checked him in the kidneys, breaking his stick. The latter looked significantly harder to me, and not just because the stick broke. Some of the commentary in the thread discussed various attacks during the game with no penalties. I fully expect Cherry to come on and say if guys like Semenko were still around ... My reply would be, if the refs actually didn't suck ... I think Cherry would have a point here. Dubinsky's only consequence during the game for his stickwork was a minor penalty. I watched the game & didn't see any Penguins come to Crosby's defense. Sure, you might lose a PP but someone needed to beat the crap out of Dubinsky. He serves his penalty & comes back to set up the winner in OT. BTW, the Penguins lose to another bottom feeder - EDM - in a shootout last night.

The refs can put as much a stop to his antics as anyone. If you see a player ignoring the game for the sake of chasing a player around the ice there are a litany of penalties that can be called. Start small, start early. Unsportsmanlike, roughing, delay of game, whatever. If he comes out of the box doing the same thing, you give him 2 and 10. Any post-whistle scrum he's on the ice, you look for antics and react.

Don't be too hard on them (the refs), blny. If a stick gets knocked out of a players hands, they'll be on it like squirrels at a nudist colony.

Oilers @ Leafs.
Again...Edmonton is pathetic, considering their drafting the past several years.
The Leafs' new goalie, Sparks, is going to shut them out...and he hasn't even had to work very hard. I can see/hear the headlines now: Rookie "Sparks" Leafs To Victory; Leafs Get the Spark They Need in Goal....etc.
As I type this post, it's 2-0 Toronto with about 9:00 left.
What a terrible game to watch...

are we about to be regaled with the Leafs playoff bound/found the goalie they've been looking for/etc?

We'll see what happens to Sparks when he plays a team that gets a lot of good scoring chances. The Oilers were pathetic…albeit hitting a post and a crossbar.
Leafs travel to Winnipeg and Minnesota for back-to-back Wed/Thurs. games. Then into St. Louis on Saturday.
A couple of Saturday's ago, Cherry anointed Reimer as "the best goalie in the league right now"…..
Now that Reimer is injured….I kinda hope Sparks pulls off another W or two this week, so Cherry can blow a new plume of concocted smoke up Leaf Nation's collective arse….
I can hear it now….
CHERRY: When Reimer comes back--he was the best in the league when he got injured, remember I said that….
MACLEAN: (automatic head nod #42,531)
CHERRY: I'll tell ya right now, the way this Sparks kid is playin'…when Reimer comes back, the Leafs will have the best #1 and backup goalies goin'! You heard it here!

Well, the Sparks heroics were short-lived.
Jets with 4 in the third to bury the Leafs 6-1.
6 GA on 29 shots. .829 save pct.

Sparks did alright ... he'd probably want a few of those goals back, but his team simply either didn't or couldn't compete ... Winnipeg seemed to be out-skating them just about everywhere on the ice ... I saw the penalty Phaneuf took near the end of the game and it looked as if he could've cared less ... I remember thinking that, while Babcock has a plan, he simply doesn't have the talent to implement it ... I think the Leafs will eventually get better but for now, anyway, they're a terrible team ... they don't look as bad as they did last year, but still ... odd how they always seem to be prepared to play Montreal, though ... Cheers.

Sparks was just OK....he made some nice saves but he was out of position quite a bit as well. I wonder if he cried after the game again?

Gee, two of 7. That's 28.6%. Pathetic. I started watching that game and caught the 1st fifteen minutes. Boston looked pretty good and fast, but not good enough obviously. The Bruins are a really small team, overall. Their average height is probably skewed by the 190' 11 inch Chara.

Freakin Cam Ward gave up 4 goals on 8 shots against Dallas tonight. Sure hope he plays like that against us next time.

There's a good team being built in Toronto ... they've kicked it up a notch recently ... they have a couple of offensive prospects with the Marlies, too ...
Cheers.

All jokes aside, I'm taking the Leafs seriously ... they have the coach, sure, but they also have the talent in the system ... the Marlies are first overall and they have 3 players in the top 8 in scoring (4 in the top-20) ... and if leadership starts behind the bench, they've got most of the rest of the team beat in that category already ... Cheers.

I wasn't joking either, Dis. If Carey isn't really, really good, I think they have a legitimate chance to catch us. Much depends on their goaltending too, of course. What concerns me is that Condon was pretty good against the Caps and we still lost. I can't even say that it was close, either.

Marchand's predatory, blindside submarine on Borowiecki.... With his past, especially his similar 5-gamer on Salo in 2012, he HAS to be slapped with 10 games. He's a disgrace to the league. He could've broken Borowiecki's neck....let alone taken out a knee.... His explanation is just as rat-like: “It was simple play,” Marchand said after Tuesday’s 7-3 Bruins win at TD Garden. “I was trying to get to the puck-carrier, and I turned up ice, and (Borowiecki) was kind of standing there. I just turned up and tried to go after the puck-carrier.”Right....he didn't see him....just like Chara didn't know Pacioretty was on the ice or where the stanchion was.... Two guys I wouldn't mind seeing having career-ending injuries resulting from "unfortunate hockey plays".... Julien must be proud....

And his usual gloved-punch to the face on top of it.
Love the Boston colour-guy, Andy Brickley, who adds yet another re-definition to the Bruins' dictionary.
Spearing = Leading With The Stick
